Neon Hentai Sword.

Probably the weirdest thing I got for Xmas this year was this duster. It’s for keeping my A3 scanner glass spotless. Even though my scanner does have a lid, for some reason dirt and rubber rubbings still manage to get in there some how all the time. They show up as marks and strange little spots on the final art when I’m scanning work. It drives me mad. I have to spend ages in photoshop painting them all out, so they don’t show up on the printed page. Hopefully this new duster will be the answer to this annoying problem. It will slay the dreaded beast that is mess.

I think with its tiny little felt finger tentacles down one side, and its odd shape and sickle high-vis colour, it looks like a neon hentai sword or something. If I was marketing this product, that’s what I’d call it. I think it’s got a nice ring to it, no?

Merry Christmas 2014.

Well… updating this blog will be my last chore before stopping for my Xmas break. Skyfall’s on TV tonight, and in a few more hours, I’ll let myself start drinking booze and eating Xmas snacks, and disappear into my festive cocoon, before emerging around new year as an out-of-shape, hung-over beautiful butterfly. The next few hours are merely a waiting game.

I can assure you, there’ll be no Xmas break this year over on Babayka-Lives, however. Page 70 will go up as usual on the 27th. So tune in on Saturday to see if Santa comes and rescues Kevin Moon from his awful fate as an Xmas special treat (Spoilers: It’s very unlikely.) But tune in anyway.

Again, a massive thank you to everyone who’s been checking out Babayka-Lives over the last year. I don’t wanna jinx it, but it’s looking like December may be the site’s most viewed month of 2014, which is a nice treat to end the year on. Nothing says Christmas like a guy getting his brain squashed against the inside of his skull with a inflated bladder, huh? I didn’t plan for such a gruesome part to be happening during the one year anniversary and Xmas period this year, but it’s just worked out nicely that way. Hope writing and drawing that scene doesn’t get me put on Santa’s naughty list this year… yikes!

So Merry Christmas and hope you all have a good one this year.

Tuesday 23 December 2014

Merry Meth-mas.

This is how I’m planning to survive the Christmas period. A seasonal stash of Blue Sky Meth.

The amount this gag gift cost online to get for a friend, it might as well have been real Meth. Jeez… smells nice, though. They’re meant to be raspberry flavoured rock-candy (I’m not allowed to try any, as they’re a present, and Santa will get mad if I do. Like really mad… Walter White mad.)

Saturday 20 December 2014

Babayka-Lives First Anniversary.

It in no way feels like a whole year, but it’s true, Babayka-Lives.com went live one year ago today. It was never the plan to launch four days before the biggest holiday of the year. In fact it was meant to start in late November 2013, but if I remember rightly, there was just one problem after another in late 2013 (including having to build the whole site again from scratch, and a few problems with my web-hosting services that took up a fair amount of time.) So the 20th of December it was. A big thank you to everyone who has checked Babayka-Lives out over the pass year. It’s a huge buzz to know people are tuning in week-after-week for the next instalment, and hope you’ve enjoyed the past year’s storyline and artwork.

To mark the occasion, it seems fitting to do a pin-up as a thank you to all readers. Since we’ve had two Yana pin-ups in a row already this year, this time I thought I’d do a one starring Vera. I just one day had this vision of a Bride in a bloody onesie, and thought it was too funny\morbid not to do. I think the concept fits with Vera’s personality quite well, so I choose her. Annoying fact is I thought this would be a fast, fun shot to do, but ended up taking me twice as long as I thought it would. Maybe a bit longer than that even. Vera in a onesie joins Yana’s selfie as pin-ups that will probably feel very dated by the time Book 2 is finishes, and they’re printed in the back like with Book 1.You can also find copies on the Babayka-Lives Message Board and my Deviantart page (while you’re on my deviantart page, you can also check out pages 67 and 68, which I also posted up today to mark this event.)

So here we are one year on… and on today’s instalment over on Babayka-Lives, we rejoin Kevin Moon, as he finds out the hard way that messing with The Brides Of Babayka gets you on the business end of a knitting-needle, large bladder and foot pump. Can he escape before the New Year? Keep reading to find out. Also plenty of spooky teddies action going on today, over on the web-comic. I got a lot of mileage out of Yana’s bears. Their cold, dead button eyes silently witnessing evil deeds being done, for some reason intrigued me. There’s even a rumour they may make a return in Book 2, but no promises.

So just to sum up… A massive thank you to all of those who have been checking Babayka-Lives out during 2014. Hope ya’ll all stick around for 2015. It’s gonna be bloody… awesome.

Tooth And Claw Inked.

Since I spent today inking the page that contains the panel from my last post, I thought people may like to see the inked and finished result.

Hope you enjoy it, and remember, it’s Babayka-Lives first anniversary this Saturday, so tune in for a new pin-up done to mark the occasion. It’s gonna be bloody… awesome.

Thursday 11 December 2014

Tooth And Claw.

I don’t really plan to post too much from Babayka: Book 2, because of spoilers, but since I haven’t updated my blog in a couple of weeks, I felt I should post something. So here’s a photo from my phone of the latest panel I‘ve just drawn. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say things get very primal in Book 2. Moral of the second book is simply ‘Nature’s the true villain in life.’ I’m half being facetious with that line… Half being deadly serious…

Also, I’m pleased to say that there will be a pin-up done to mark Babayka-Lives turning one on the 20th. My recent scanner problems have been a massive pain in the arse, but happily the image is done, scanned, and now sitting on my desktop waiting for the 20th to roll round so I can post it. I currently have a love\hate relationship with the first anniversary pin-up. Sometimes I look at it and think it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever drawn, while other days I’m not so hot on it. Never the less, hopefully readers will get a kick out of it. I get the feeling Yana Selfie is fans favourite pin-up so far, and the one to beat.

Brides Of Babayka For Xmas.

For those looking for Xmas gift ideas (as a treat for yourself, or maybe for others), why not hassle Santa this year for a copy of Brides Of Babayka? Perfect for your comic\horror loving friends or family, or maybe just for yourself as something to read over the holidays.

Here’s some quick reasons why you should pick up a copy for Xmas:

* Be a little bit cooler than the web-comic crowd and learn early what lurks in the dark room at the end of the hall, and if the remaining Bachelors will survive.

* Character sheets and Pin-ups section as extras.

* A couple of exclusive Pin-ups done just for the graphic-novel, including Yana and Vera in the bath, and I think one of the spookiest shots I’ve ever drawn of Babayka, if not the spookiest.

* Original Babayka character sheet design, which is a little different to the final Babayka look, which I never plan to ever post online. See Babayka initial design only in the graphic-novel.

* Bragging rights for owning a hard copy. The knowledge you’re not cheap and you kick-in and help indie comics.

Also, I don’t wanna rock the boat, but sales between the UK and the US were pretty much neck-and-neck until the sales from the De La Warr pushed the UK ahead. I know that Babayka-Lives gets more US readers, so it’s not too late to steal the lead, America. Unless you’re reading this in the UK, in which case, it’s your duty to defend and extend England’s top position. Who’s gonna come out tops before the end of 2014?

Your inner-Santa can pick up a copy of Brides Of Babayka for Xmas this year from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk or Lulu.com

And a massive thank you to people who have already bought a copy, and those who do pick up a copy this Christmas. With my A3 scanner dieing on me, and web-hosting cost both hitting me hard recently, all sales really do help big time. And anyone who has been thinking about chipping in and donating and supporting the site, can do so via the Donate button at the bottom, left-hand side. All donations do help massively and says good things about you as a human-being.

Dark Xmas.

I think it’s safe to say it’s gonna be a very dark Xmas for Kevin Moon this year over on Babayka-Lives. No spoilers, but I think he’s in for a rough time in the coming weeks, personally. I think Mr Moon is about to learn the hard way that nobody messes with the Brides Of Babayka. Place your bets now as to whether Moon will even make it to Xmas or not? Also, for anyone wanting a sneak peek at next week’s page, there’s an unlettered copy on my Deviantart page. I think it’s one of my favourite pages from the whole book.

Speaking of my Deviantart page, I recently posted a journal entry on there about next month’s first year anniversary of Babayka-Lives that readers may wanna check out. Can you believe it’s nearly been a year already?

Also did this quick doodle of a Troll this week in my sketchbook. Look at his devious, knobbly face. Wonder what mischief he’s been up to, eh?

Saturday 15 November 2014

All Teeth And Gums.

This weekend over on Babayka-Lives… has Blake inadvertently just sealed his own fate? No good deed goes unpunished, as they say, as Blake finds himself centre of attention at the party.

Been a while since I posted any original artwork on here, so here’s a quick sketchbook doodle I did last night. I think he looks a little bit like what Slenderman would look like if he was drawn by Francis Bacon.

Happy Halloween 2014.

Wishing all readers of Babayka-Lives a massive Happy Halloween this year. Hope you all have a good one. Hope you enjoy this special Halloween Gif made just for the occasion. You can also find a copy of it on the Babayka-Lives message board, where you are also very welcome to post any Halloween greetings or spooky Ecards of your own.

I myself am all stocked up for the next few days (as you can tell by the photo below… bonus points if you can name all three horror dvds?) I’ve got booze, spooky movies and cupcakes (and maybe a copy of Zombie Tramp the graphic-novel, if it turns up before the weekend.), so I’m all set for Halloween 2014.

And don’t forget on Saturday page 62 goes up on Babayka-Lives this weekend. So if you want something spooky to read this Halloween, drop by and check it out. Find out the fate of Alina, as Kevin Moon closes in. Things get tense this Halloween on Babayka-Lives.

Friday 24 October 2014

Back To Moon.

Tune into Babayka-Lives tomorrow as we rejoin Kevin Moon as he looks for someone to take his bad mood out on… but who does he find?

Here’s a little preview of the first panel to get you in the mood. I have a soft spot for this shot. I like it so much I almost used it as the image on the backcover of the graphic-novel. It’s strange how Moon became the star of both the front and backcover in the end.  It was both a case of happy accident and poor planning, I guess.

Also, if you’re planning on treating yourself and getting something spooky to read this Halloween. May I recommend Brides Of Babayka the graphic-novel. It’s the perfect time of year to snuggle up with a good creepy book. Plus the graphic-novel comes with exclusive pin-ups not available anywhere else. Find out what the Brides are hiding in the room at the end of the hall before the rest. Invite Babayka into your home this year and give yourself a real spooky Halloween.

Back Online.

After two plus weeks of being without internet, I’m very pleased to say it looks like I’m back online.

While internet woes may be incredibly frustrating, they don’t tend to make for very good reading, so I won’t go into major details (I’m sure you’ve all got internet provider horror stories of your own, anyway, am I right?) Just to say I’ve been having massive problems with an internet company Kevin Bacon’s very fond of, but I’m not anymore. Also, hell is trying to sort out a very technical server problem over the phone to an overseas call-centre, while being charged a ridicules amount of money for every minute you’re on the phone to them. I’m not sure how that’s even legal? Many times it felt like I was unwittingly in some bad comedy sketch. I still don’t really know why my internet was down, only that it was something to do with their servers (even though they went out of their way to try and make it look like this wasn’t the case.) All I know is the problem went away Sunday night, and I really hope it stays that way.

Looking on the brightside, I’ve been online for around ten years, and this is by far the worse internet problem I’ve ever had in that time, and I still managed to get my web-comic updated. True, page 58 was 48-hours late, but still… it’s nice to know when such major setbacks do come along, there are ways around them. Kind of seems like sod’s law that such a massive internet problem would hit me after only ten months in after launching a new web-comic, but at least now I know there are ways of dealing with them when these problems do pop up. A big thank you to everyone who kept checking in. I’m very much hoping my recent internet problems are behind me now… but we’ll see.

I’m really glad I’ve got back on the internet just before Halloween. Checking out people’s Halloween related artwork online is a big treat for me every year, and I would have been very sad to have missed it. Being a horror comic-book artist, I like to try and do a Halloween Ecard image every year, even if sometimes it’s just a sketchbook one. I’m very pleased to say I’ve all ready done something for this Halloween. This years one will be a little different is all I’ll say, though. Watch this space, folks. If anybody else out there also does Halloween Ecards, please by all means feel free to post them in the Babayka-Lives message board on Halloween if you like. I’d love to see them.

As a bit of a thank you to those who did keep checking back and reading Babayka-Lives during these dark last couple of weeks, I thought I’d post this bit of artwork below as a thanks. It’s a character sheet drawing of a new character from what will (hopefully) be Babayka: Book 2. I’m not going to say if she’s a new Bride or not, but (fingers crossed) you should be seeing a lot of this girl down the line.

Monday 6 October 2014

Temporary Life Via A Dongle.

Sadly and annoyingly my internet went down last Thursday night, and has still yet to come back to life. I think the problem is something to do with my internet provider’s servers, so I’m gonna be spending a large part of this week trying to get that sorted, and getting myself back online. Thankfully, after a couple of trips out into the rain today, I did manage to buy an Internet Dongle, so I can still put up this week’s instalment over on Babayka-Lives, and write this blog post to let people know the deal. My apologies for being 48-hours late in updating my web-comic this week, but I’m sure most people reading this will have their own internet provider horror stories and understand.

The plan is I’m not gonna be online a lot this week unless my internet provider suddenly gets their act together (I’m not holding my breath), but hopefully there’ll be enough GB juice left in my dongle that I’ll still be able to post this week’s page on time over on Babayka-Lives this coming Saturday as normal, and if worse-comes-to-worse, the following Saturday, too. So unless my dongle fails me, Babayka-Lives should be ok in updating in the coming weeks.

I will be sure to return any\all correspondence when I do get back online at some point, so a big sorry to anyone currently waiting for a reply from me. I promises I will get back to you as soon as I can (there’s something about the internet that makes some people think it’s ok not to reply to correspondence… I promises I’m not one of those dicks. I always make a point of replying to all non-rude, troll-free, nice messages from people, and will do so as soon as I can.)

I’ve got a nasty feeling this ain’t one of those internet problems that’s gonna go away over night, sadly, but I will be back at some point (even if I have to change internet providers.) As I say, I will try and make sure my current Internet woes don’t mess with the updating of Babayka-Lives too much, and will do my best to make sure there’s still something new to read every Saturday.

P.S. I think ‘Dongle’ is my new favourite word.

Monday 29 September 2014

Level One.

Was reading this article on the cruel brilliance of the first level of Resident Evil 4 over the weekend. As someone who recently had to replace a lost copy of Resident Evil 4 last week and has been playing it again lately, I found this article rings very true.

I would never claim to be a gamer these days, as I neither have the time or the money for it, sadly. That said, I still have a massive soft spot for the Resident Evil franchise. Not that I’ve played any of the modern ones. The last one I played was when I bought a copy of Resident Evil 5 for this very laptop I’m typing on right now, and then soon discovered it wasn’t powerful enough to handle it. (Although I enjoyed the little I did play when I could get it to work.) The newer games seemed a bit too Matrix-y for me, from what I’ve seen. I also watched the fifth Resident Evil movie the other day, and just couldn’t get into it. I get the feeling the newer Resident Evil games\movies swapped survival horror for Matrix style leather outfits, high kicks and  unlimited ammo machine guns and explosions.

I’m also a massive fan of going onto youtube and checking out the mods people have done for Resident Evil games (Cammy White in Resident Evil 4? You’re crazy, internet... Actually, isn‘t Cammy also owned by Capcom? Plus she‘s a secret agent. Would it really be so weird to see her in a Resident Evil game...? probably.) I’ve also got a soft spot for Left 4 Dead mods too, even though I’ve never played it.

Babayka-Lives Message Board.

When I first started Babayka-Lives in very late 2013, the only comments I got were just bucket-loads of spam. To stop this ungodly wave of evil spam, and because I was also a little worried about spoilers from people who had read the graphic-novel getting posted under the web-comic, I turned the comments off. There wasn’t enough pages posted yet to really warrant any real comments anyway, so I didn’t feel like anyone was missing out. But that said, it’s not unreasonable that people might want somewhere online to leave their comments\thoughts. So with that in mind, I’ve started a Message Board for readers. After nine-months and 56-pages, it feels like the right time to open it up to the public again.

I’m just giving it a few months trial. I’ll try it throughout the remainder of 2014, and if it doesn’t get any action, or becomes unmanageable, no biggie, I’ll just delete it and we’ll reboot to how it was before. I’m gonna treat this new message board as an experiment. I am very aware that forums have been known to go bad (I.e. Spam, Trolls, etc) and have to be hacked off like a recently zombie bitten infected limb, but I’m giving it a try anyway. I’ve been thinking for a while it would be nice to have somewhere off-site where people can gather and intermingle. If it doesn’t get uses and it’s not something people want, I’ll just retire it in the new year.

So to sum up, if you’ve been wanting to comment on Babayka-Lives, or maybe interact with other readers of this web-series, here is your chance. Just head over to the web-comic and you’ll see there’s a brand new link in the header-bar. Follow it and click on the Babayka-Lives: Comments\Thoughts\Feedback thread and have your say.

Weekend Reads.

Here’s what I’ll be reading this weekend. Doing some homework, as it were.

Speaking of things to read over the weekend… tune into Babayka-Lives tomorrow when Julian’s bathroom attacker is revealed (I’m very aware that last sentence sounds a bit suspect…)

Saturday 13 September 2014

Low On Stock.

I was gonna title this week’s post ‘Bathroom Invader’ to reflect the nature of today’s Babayka-Lives page, but was a little worried as to what kind of online traffic I might pick up with a title like that, so I didn’t in the end. In this week’s instalment, is this the beginning of the end for Julian Webb?

I’m very pleased to say I’m almost sold out at the Del La Warr. A massive thank you to those people who bought a copy from there. Stocks are very low, so if anybody was planning on making the trip and picking up a copy, it may be a smart idea to go sooner, rather than later to avoid disappointment. Of course you can always get the Graphic-Novel online, too, if they have sold out by the time you read this post. You can still easily get a copy delivered straight to your door.

Tuesday 9 September 2014

Back To The Dragon.

For anyone who’s wondering what I’m currently reading, I just had this massive Savage Dragon: Vol 1 omnibus come through the post today. I read some Savage Dragon back in the 90’s, and enjoyed what little I could get my hands on, as it wouldn’t come in regularly in my local comic book shop back then. He’s a character I’ve been meaning to come back to for a while now, so I’m very much looking forward to getting into this first book (which is a whooping 616-pages.)  This omnibus is actually black-and-white, and not colour like the actual comic, which suits me fine, as I’m more about the line-work anyway. If anything, I kind of wish more comics were in black-and-white.

Sunday 7 September 2014

No Answer.

For those of you who may have already read this week’s page from Babayka-Lives, you might have notices there’s a bit of a call back to page 29 in this instalment. Will Blake notices the underhanded games being played before it’s too late? Who will the Brides turn their attention to next? Keep reading to find out.

Also, just a quick request to those people who may have been awesome enough to buy Brides Of Babayka the graphic-novel. If you have, and you enjoyed the book and feel like helping out, it would be amazing if people could leave reviews on the sites where they bought the book (I.E. Lulu, Amazon, etc, etc.) Any and all online shout outs and support is very welcome, and really does help greatly. A massive thank you to anyone who has, or does leave a favourable review. It’s very, very appreciated.

Monday 1 September 2014

Show Some Love.

For anyone who missed this weekend’s page over on Babayka-Lives this Saturday, The party’s in full swing, and so is Julian’s bitchy streak. Are you Team Kevin or Team Julian? Or more likely are you Team Neither (that’s where the smart money would probably be.)

Please keep all votes as to who you would like to see be the star of my next Brides pin-up coming to this Email address. It’s also the address for anyone kind enough to wanna leave feedback, or ask any questions, etc, etc. I do promise to try and reply to all troll free correspondence, so don’t be shy and vote, leave feedback, or just say hello. Or if you have an deviantart account, you can simply ‘Note Me’ on there with your votes\feedback\questions. Also, if by some chance you’re a super fan and want to do something awesome like Fan-Art or maybe even Cosplay as one of my web-comic's characters, I would love to see them, so send any art copies or photos to my Email address, too, or via deviantart. Considering my web-comic is only nine months old, it’s probably way too soon to be getting any love from cosplayers, realistically, but after nine months and 53-pages, is Fan-Art really out of the question? Who wants the bragging rights of being the first person to ever do any Babayka-Lives related fan-art?

I’m also thinking of colouring my Yana Selfie pin-up and sending out high-res, full US comic book size  copies to people kind enough to donate to the web-comic. I’ve been thinking for a while of doing something for the donators. Just a little something I can easily and quickly Email out to those kind people who support the web-comic, and I think this might be it. If you’ve been thinking of donating for a while now and like the idea of receiving an exclusive colour copy of Yana Selfie, drop me a line and let me know if that’s something you’d wanna have?

ID Pic.

I’m not one for flooding the internet with pictures of myself. There’s a couple of shots of me about online (including one to your right on this very blog), but in general, I keep a fairly low online presences when it comes to pictures of me. If people have an interests in you and your work, I don’t think it’s unusual or unreasonable for those people to want to know what you look like. But that said, I’m not one of those people taking daily selfies and online logging every step I take. The older I get, the more the idea of that creeps me out a little.

That’s all well and good, but it does kind of conflict with one of my modern pet hates, however. Like most people these days, I do a lot of corresponding over the internet, and I find it a tiny bit unnerving when you have no idea what the person you’re chatting to looks like. I know for some people, being anonymous is something they like when chatting online, but I find it a little off putting when you’re having a pretty deep exchange with someone over the internet, and all you’ve got looking back at you is a cartoon avatar or something. A photo of there cat or car maybe. I know I’m getting more and more in the minority on this one, but faceless correspondence is a bit of a bummer to me. How much can you really be bonding with someone, if they don’t want you to know something very basic like what they actually look like. So I thought I’d put my money where my mouth is and post an ID photo myself. Taken only yesterday, so this is what I looked like 24-hours ago. A face to put with the name, as it were.

P.S. No judgement on anyone I have corresponded with over the net over the years who has\does  choose to go anonymous online, by the way. The internet feels like it is made up of two camps of people these days. Those who bring maybe a little too much of the real world online. Tweeting and Facebooking every little thing they do, eat, say (said the guy writing on his Blog…) And those who just want nothing more than a cartoon Avatar and to build a new persona for the online world. They want to keep their real life, and their online life separate. I’d like to think personally, I come down somewhere in the middle.

Friday 22 August 2014

Future Plans.

The good news is there’ll be two pages posted tomorrow on Babayka-Lives. The bad news is one page is just solid black with ‘Chapter Three’ written on it. Oh well… P.S. thumbs up for all the smart folks who answered ‘tooth’ as what Kevin Moon found on the ground last week.

This being my first year web-publishing a comic, I notices that a lot of web-comics go on hiatus over the summer months. This may be something I do myself down-the-line in later years (if my web-comic’s lucky enough to have later years), as I guess it kind of makes sense. People want to be out enjoying the sun in the Summer months, not online reading scary web-comics. That’s more of a winter time pursuit, I guess. It’s something I’ll be thinking about for now, anyway. I should say though, there are no plans for any immediate hiatuses. The web-comics been going weekly since December last year, with no plans of letting up for a good while yet. In fact this week we’ve only just hit the halfway mark in the Brides Of Babayka storyline. Which should take up the rest of 2014, and go well into 2015 as well (unless you want to cheat and just buy the graphic-novel instead.)

Over on my deviantart profile this week, I’m asking readers who they would like to see as the star of my next pin-up? I.E. which Bride should be next to get their own pin-up? Check out my DA page for details.

Friday 15 August 2014

Second Animated Ad.

Web Ad spaces online are very weird shapes. I guess so they can kind of poke in around the sides, or underneath content on the web. They’re not the best sizes for trying to show off artwork in, though, sadly. Web Ads are too elongated and thin. Not big enough to do anything too grand in. Above is my attempt to try and do a leaderboard style Animated Ad. I think it came out ok. Like the first Ad, I used my recent Yana’s Crimson Smile pin-up for the artwork. With Babayka taking a backseat for most of this story, I’m more and more starting to think of Yana as my web-comic’s lead character. She’s fast becoming the poster child of this web-series.

Tune into Babayka-Lives tomorrow to see if you guessed right on what Kevin Moon just found underfoot in the hallway, as he walked back to his room (I’m almost tempted to give a prize to those that do guess it.) With page 50 going up tomorrow, we’re exactly halfway through Brides Of Babayka now. Tomorrow’s page will be the final page of Chapter 2. Each chapter is a little bit more messed up than the last, so expect very gruesome things from Chapter 3. No spoilers, but all I’ll say is this… knitting-needle.

Saturday 9 August 2014

Elf Abuse.

This might be the first non-horror related artwork I’ve done for a while. I kind of see this pin-up as the final result of spending the last three months nerding out on all things Fantasy related. The lead character is my Elf Maiden from a few weeks ago. Plus I also put in my Blue, Grey and Brown Trolls as well to round out the cast. I never actually thought I’d do anything with those characters designs, so it was nice to get a chance to flesh them out a bit. I’ve kind of got a basic concept of a story I’d like to do staring these characters, but very little time to develop it, and zero time to draw it. It might be something I come back to at a later date, maybe with another artist on art duty. That’s the only way I could see myself moving these characters and ideas forward.

This week on Babayka-Lives. You’ve got a whole seven days to try and work out what Mr Moon’s just found under foot in this week‘s instalment. Big respect to those who can figure it out before the final page of Chapter 2 goes up next weekend. Tune in then to see if your guess was right.

Sunday 3 August 2014

Spot The Fox.

Spotted this guy napping out in the sun over my back-fence the other day. I didn’t really wanna disturb him, so this was as close as I could get (because nobody likes being hassled during a midday summer nap.) Because I couldn’t get that close, this picture is a bit like Where’s Wally, but with a fox. But I assure you, if you keep looking, you’ll spot him. And once you spot him, you’ll wanna crawl into the photo and start spooning him… or is that just me?

P.S. That’s how stealthy and badass I am. I can take a picture of a napping fox in the daytime without him even noticing. I out fox a fox.

As a bonus, this week after heading over to Babayka-Lives and checking out this week’s page, you can then follow this link and check out an unlettered version if you’d like to see the artwork word-bubble free. I use the bottom panel from this page a lot in advertising and so on. It’s even on the back of the graphic-novel. I still think they’re the spookiest eyes I've ever drawn.

Video Nasties: Vol 2.

Been watching (on-and-off) the second Video Nasties boxset over the last few days. I was a big fan of the first one, and I’m looking forward to finishing the second edition. I’ve notices you recognize a lot more of the titles on the Section 3 list. It’s very depressing to think we came close to losing movies like Night Of The Living Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My teenage years would have been a lot more boring if this law had been passed.

I should say as a warning this trailer is pretty gory. Like… really gory…

Monday 21 July 2014

Korgoth Of Barbaria.

As well as reading a huge amount of Conan this weekend just gone, I also watched the pilot for Korgoth Of Barbaria. It’s a shame they never made a series out of it. It made me laugh. Worth watching for the title sequences alone.

Home At Last.

This week on Babayka-Lives… the rained out picnic comes to an end, as our Brides and British Bachelors return to the hotel to dry off. But how long will it take the guys to realize their group is now one short?

Had a slight bump in the sales of my book last month. A big thank you to those who bought a copy. My theory is because we’re getting up there in page numbers (we’re on page 46 now, for those not counting.), people have a pretty good idea of what the stories about, and if they wanna invest in getting it as a graphic-novel. So again, a big thank you to all those brave enough to press that buy button. Hope you enjoy the book, and no spoilers please (remember… knowing the secrets of Babayka many months before the online readers holds great responsibility.)

For those wondering if my recent Fantasy genre kick I’ve been going through lately has cease by now… this came in the post this morning. At this rate, I’m gonna be wearing a Wizard’s cap and playing D&D by the end of the summer.

Elf Problems.

I’m not gonna lie… I’m kind of going through a bit of a fantasy genre kick right now. Watched both Conan and Willow in the last week, and listened to the theme from Zelda a fair few times as well. Instead of drawing an ugly troll to quench my recent fantasy thirst this week, I thought I’d have a stab at doing a sexy elf girl. Never really drawn any elf characters before, but kind of enjoyed drawing this one. I wanted her to look cute, but kind of tough as well. Drawing pointy elf ears is strangely satisfying, I’ve found, weirdly enough.

If you like comics about girls wearing nothing but panties and aprons while cleaning up brain splatter with bits of hair in it, then tomorrows page of Brides Of Babayka should be right up your street. Not for the squeamish, tomorrows instalment.

Word Of Mouth.

Just a quick blog update today.

Over on Babayka-Lives this weekend, Alina and Zoya get out of their bloody clothes, and Julian lets rip with his inner bitch as the group make their way back to the hotel.

Also, if you’re enjoying Babayka-Lives and feel like helping out, please feel free to blog, tweet, like, review and recommend to friends this web-comic if you’re enjoying the story and wanna help this title. All word of mouth is very welcome and helps greatly. From naming this web-comic when people ask you what you’re currently reading. To sending links to friends or just name dropping Babayka-Lives when you’re about online. Every referral helps big time and is much appreciated.

And a big thank you to anybody who may have done this already. Considering readership has slowly been growing in recent months, I’d like to think this may be one of the reasons for that, and I would very much like to thank anyone who has given my web-comic a shout out or kind word online or to friends. You people are awesome.

Animated Ad.

In the last couple of days I’ve been running my first animated ad. I’ve been experimenting with gifs, and very basic animation lately and thought I’d have a go at making one. I love trailers for horror movies, and as a web-comic creator, this is probably the closes I’m going to get to that.

Over on my Deviantart page I posted my Alina meets bloody backsplash gif, and even managed to the fix the final two frames to make sure they were pure black.

Saturday 21 June 2014

Yana’s Crimson Smile.

Blood drench women seems to be a theme these last couple of weeks. First my Alina caught in the crossfire gif from last week, and now this recent pin-up. I’ve always shied away from doing giant close up face shots. They’re tricky and hard to pull off. But I was feeling brave these last couple of weeks, and so thought I’d give it a go. It was both fun and nerve racking to flick ink at a piece of artwork this big. I only had one go at doing it, too. No room for mistakes. I think all-in-all it came out looking ok. I like the creepy smile.

My plan is to do the odd pin-up now-and-then between sequential pages for my web-comic. I think the pin-ups in the back of Brides Of Babayka look pretty snazzy, and if there is a book 2, I’d like to do a similar thing (if not bigger and better.)

And if that hasn’t fulfilled your Yana fix for the weekend, it’s a pretty Yana heavy page over on Babayka-Lives this week.

Sunday 15 June 2014

Also Available At…

Thanks to a good friend of mine, you can now currently pick up a copy of Brides Of Babayka at Del La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill in their art shop. It’s right next to the knuckleduster mugs and dashboard Jesus. Something for readers in the south-east of the UK to look out for.

Speaking of Del La Warr, I need to get down there at some point soon to check out their Otto Dix show.

Over on Babayka-Lives this weekend, I think it’s safe to say the picnic’s over for our Brides and Bachelors as the rain starts to pour down. The big question now is, in returning home early, are Alina and Zoya gonna be caught red handed? Keep reading to find out.

Wednesday 11 June 2014

Gif Of Terror.

Been meaning to get into making Gifs for a while now. Then found out a certain art program on my laptop has a very basic animation feature on it, so I thought I’d make a gif from the infamous Alina accidentally gets entered into a crimson wet T-shirt competition scene from Brides Of Babayka. You can see the results above.

Not sure why the blacks turned to a washed out grey at the end, but I can live with it, considering it’s my first gif. Over all, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. Hopefully down the line, I’ll find some free time to do some more, so watch this space.

Also check out the tumblr Webcomics Animated, if gifs of Webcomics is your thing. It’s a very cool site.

And if you think you can make a better Babayka-Lives gif, by all means have a go. Just be sure to send me a link so I can check it out.

In The Works.

I thought this photo made a good sneak peek shot of a future pin-up I’m currently working on, as the artwork itself is slightly masked by a sheet of layout paper. Why would I need to masks off so much of the art with layout paper you ask? You’ll see… Give it a couple of weeks, and you’ll find out.

I guess it would be fair to say the storyline of Brides Of Babayka is well underway now, so tune into Babayka-Lives tomorrow to see the next instalment. Which bachelor will be next to go splat? (no spoilers from the people who have read the graphic-novel, please.)

And keep that feedback coming in as always. I’m currently thinking of doing a sketch just for those people kind enough to donate and support the web-comic. A high-res scan of a sketch just for the donators that wouldn’t be available anywhere else online. What the theme, or the characters in this sketch would be, I’m not sure yet, so I’m open to suggestions. Who or what would readers like to see drawn in this free sketch? Also how much would be the minimum donation amount to get this sketch? What’s a fair price?

Brown Troll.

Wow… the conclusion to last week’s jaw-dropping action over on Babayka-Lives. And another Troll sketch here on this very blog (I’m in a very giving mood this weekend.) I still harbour a strong desire to do a Troll horror story one day. Right now it’s just a sketchbook thing, but maybe one day.

There’s still plenty of time to get your Babayka-Lives feedback in. In fact, really, feedback is always welcome. But right now especially. I’d also love to know what country readers are from, too? Using Project Wonderful, I can now see recently which countries Babayka-Lives is generating the must readers in. First is US. Second is UK (my home country.) And third seems to change almost daily.

A Call Out.

You could maybe argue that page 38 (the page that’s just gone up on Babayka-Lives) is the big turning point of this story. Why not check it out and decide for yourself?

Late last week I put a call out for feedback on my deviantart page. What with my web-comic being nearly six months old now, it seems like the right time. To get things started, I’ve thought up some questions to get the ball rolling. I’m in no way expecting people to answer all of these, but if you see one or two you fancy, and you wanna help out and get involved, please do.

Q: More often than not, where and when do you usually read Babayka-Lives? I.E. Evenings at home on your home computer? During the day on your work computer? Middle of the night under the sheets with a flashlight and tablet?

Q: Who is your favourite and less favourite characters in the series and why?

Q: Should I start a Babayka-Lives Facebook\Twitter account? Is that something you wanna see?

Q: I’m thinking of giving away something free to those people kind enough to donate on my site, but what should it be? Realistically, it needs to be something I can easily Email them… but what? A one-off pin-up just for donators? A colour copy of one of my pin-ups? A scan of a very quick sketch? Or something else? What do you think would be fair and for how much?

Q: Are you actually finding Babayka-Lives scary? If so, what scenes creep you out?

Q: Do I have any female readers out there? Or is this series just something that would alienate your average lady comic-book fan?

Q: Would you like to see more Babayka-Lives pin-ups? If so, who would you like to see more pin-ups of and what should they be doing?

Q: Are you enjoying this web-series? If so, why? If not, why?

Emails to: babayka-lives{AT}outlook.com

Email subject heading can be ‘Feedback’ or ‘Q&A’ or anything, really. Please also feel free to use this Email address for any other web-comic matters like inquires, fan-art, and so on.

Grey Troll.

Or Pebble Eyes as I call him. As promised, this is me putting my (maker) pen where my mouth is and drawing another Troll.

Hopping to get a fair amount of artwork done in the next few weeks (crosses fingers.) I’ve been away from the drawing board way too long.

Tune into Babayka-Lives tomorrow to see Alina get made an offer she can’t refuse.

Sunday 11 May 2014

The Morning After.

Over on Babayka-Lives this week, someone needs to work on their morning after pillow talk.

Lettered and printed off some pages this week from what could be the second Babayka book. I know what I’d like to do, should there be a book 2. Like most sequels, it would be about expanding the characters and setting. Fleshing out the world. Just to prove things are in motion, I took this quick pic on my camera phone.

Also thinking of doing another Pin-up at some point very soon. Which Bride would you like to see next drawn as a pin-up? Answers can be sent to the web-comic’s Email address here. Get your votes in.

Sunday 4 May 2014

Blue Troll.

For anyone who didn’t catch yesterdays instalment over on Babayka-Lives, this week a revelation about the late Mr Mack comes to the surface as Blake and Conner chew over their current predicament.

What with recently reading the first volume of Orc Stain, and fantasy being very in right now, I decided to do a quick Troll sketch for fun last week. I think Trolls are a very underused monsters, probably because  they’re stuck firmly in the fantasy genre. If all my time wasn’t taken up by doing my web-comic, I’d love to do a fantasy-lite Troll horror story. I just feel like Trolls are gonna be the new Zombie craze in the coming next five-to-ten years. I just think people are bored of Zombies and Vampires, and Trolls are next in line to go massive.

I wouldn’t be surprised if I have another stab at doing some Troll sketches in the coming weeks (if I can find the time) so stay tuned for those (if they happen.) First, I’ve got a whole shedload of lettering to do before that.

Saturday 26 April 2014

Web Worthy.

It’s all Frisbees and intrigue in this week’s instalment over on Babayka-Lives.

Speaking of which… maybe it’s a little nerdy of me, but I kind of get a kick out of the fact that my web-comic has started to appear on search engines. What with a slight rise in readership figures this month, and now finding myself Google worthy, it’s a big buzz to know people are reading (and hopefully enjoying) my work. It‘s still very early days for Babayka-Lives (I’m still a baby-bird of a web-comic), but I’d like to think I’m picking up steam now. Finding my feet, as it were.

I kind of wish the next search result down wasn’t so morbid, though… but there you go…

Friday 18 April 2014

Happy Zombie Jesus Day.

This Easter, instead of chocolate eggs and hot cross buns, me and a couple of friends decided to dine on the notorious cheese burger pizza that a certain big UK pizza company have just put out. While I thought it tasted a bit hit-and-miss, and I’m not sure if it’s even possible to improve on the basic concept of the wonder that is a pizza, it was still a nice junk food treat. Not sure if I can ever see myself ordering one again, however, but I’m all for Frankenstein style pizzas. Next, I wanna see someone incorporate Nachos into the DNA of a pizza. Maybe with some kind of guacamole\sour cream pizza sauce  thrown into the mix. I’m not gonna lie, I’m tired of dipping.

Be sure to tune into Babayka-Lives.com tomorrow where the trap tightens around our poor unsuspecting bachelors.

Wednesday 16 April 2014

Currently Reading.

I’m currently reading The Conspiracy Against The Human Race. I’m only part way through the first chapter so far, and it’s good, if a little grim and po-faced. I’m 34-pages in, and so far it reads like an anti-self help book or something. I’m hoping the tone is going to lighten a little as I read on, or this book is going to be hard going to complete. Not that I haven’t found this book pretty interesting thus far.

I’ve been checking out those smiling hedgehog pictures that have been doing the rounds on the internet lately to even things out. When the book becomes too much of a downer, I just look at this picture and suddenly every thing seems a little better in the world.

Saturday 12 April 2014

Yana Selfie.

I posted this pin-up on my DA page a couple of days ago, as my account hit the big 10,000 mark. I haven’t drawn Yana for a while, so doing this shot was a big thrill for me. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve kind of fallen under the spell of the recent craze of sexy girls taking selfies of themselves. Yana being a beautiful, young girl barely in her twenties, it didn’t seem out of character for her to get in on the act, also. Once I had the idea a few weeks ago, I knew I had to draw it. I think this shot came out ok, actually. I spent ages trying to get the body languages just right. I think this is one of my favourite drawings I’ve ever done of Yana.

Still not a 100% sure if there will be a Babayka: Book 2, but if there is, I will differently put the above pin-up in the extras section. Will probably throw in my web-comic header, too, so people can have a printed physical copy of that as well. Anybody still hungry for Yana pin-ups should check out the graphic-novel. I drew an exclusive Yana, Vera and a mystery third guest share a bath pin-up in the back of the book.

Speaking of Vera, there’s no Yana in this week’s instalment, but Vera and Klara both pop up. (Since I’m namedropping a lot of Brides in this week post, I’m gonna end by putting this helpful girls character sheet link in, so people don’t get too confused about who’s who.)

Saturday 5 April 2014

Enjoy The Silence.

And so our group goes trekking off silently into the distant in this week’s gripping, if slightly quiet instalment. I have to say this is one of my favourite pages from the whole book. Originally, the characters were never meant to leave the hotel in the first draft. You were never meant to see the surrounding location. I’m very glad I change my mind on that subject. What’s a good horror story without a creepy ghost town to set it in, right?

Just a quick update on my deviantart page hitting 10,000. I’m at the time of writing this just 42-hits shy of the target. The special pin-up I drew just for this occasion has now been clean up with an eraser, scanned, cleaned up digitally in photoshop, and resizes, and is currently sitting on my computer desktop, ready to go. So please feel free to pop over to my DA page any time soon and bump up that number. As I’ve recently revealed over on my DA page, this pin-up stars one of the main characters from Brides Of Babayka, doing something that’s very trendy right now (but will probably have gone out of fashion by the time I get to post it.)

A Colourful Ghost From The Past.

I recently had to scan some old documents for reasons best not gone into, and one of them was my old college library card. I scanned it on the wrong setting at first, but kind of liked the effect I accidentally got, so I thought I’d share it here (or at least the photo.) If you ever wondered what I looked like ten years ago and with a reduce colour palette, it would look like above. I think it’s got a cool screen-print vibe about it.

You’re gonna need to wrap up warm as things head outside this week (or rather the weekend just gone) on Babayka-Lives.

Thursday 27 March 2014

The Mummie Returns.

I’ve actually been meaning to post this re-jig of an old sketchbook doodle from last year for a while now, but you know… the scanner’s on the other side of the room… my sketchbook was under a massive pile of books. yadda, yadda, yadda.

I went off the original sketch pretty soon after drawing it, so at first I just tried to strengthen the line work, but before long I had my markers out, and was adding colour, too. While it’s important to learn when to let an image go and not over render it, I actually think it looks a little bit better. I still don’t love this doodle, but at least now I can tolerate it. I re-jigged it into submission.

What with getting the web-comic going, and working on new sequential pages lately, I haven’t had much time for doing quick drawings in my sketch-book recently. I’m not saying there will be a Babayka: Book 2, but this week I did commit to buying a new hundred page folder for keeping these new pages in.

Saturday 22 March 2014

The Plot Sickens.

I think some webs are differently being spun in this week’s instalment of Babayka-Lives

As I mentioned on my deviantart account last weekend, I have actually done a piece of art to mark my page hitting 10,000-views. It just needs cleaning up and scanning, and it’s ready to go. No doubt I’ll probably post it on here too, but not until my account hits its target in a couple of months. So please be sure to check out my deviantart page, and help fatten up my page views, so I can post it ASAP. I don’t want to big it up too much, but this pin-up is one of my favourite things I’ve drawn so far in 2014. Dare I say it’s a little bit sexy.

Here’s how my page view counter looks as of now:

Monday 17 March 2014

Elevator Pitch.

It’s maybe not my strongest point, summing up my web-comic, but I recently had to write a small blurb for my Project Wonderful account, and I thought I’d share the results here. Think of it like an elevator pitch to sell the concept to a new reader. Mine currently reads:

“Ongoing horror web-comic series about the shadowy figure of Babayka, and the poor, unfortunate individuals who cross his path . Aided by his beautiful Brides, very few have lived to tell the tale of the monstrous Babayka, and his misadventures in his tucked away lair deep in the Russian wilderness. By UK comic book writer\artist Andrew Reed. Web-comic recommended for older readers.”

I heard it’s a good idea if you can get your web-comic pitch down to three words. This I haven’t been able to do yet, but it’s something I’m gonna be trying to figure out in the next few weeks. The closes I’ve got is:

“Survival Horror Pot-Boiler”

Which needs work (for a start, I’m not 100% sure ‘pot-boiler’ isn’t two words… but anyway.) The three word pitch is a work-in-progress, really.

Very much looking forward to watching this program tomorrow night. Wish there were a hell of a lot more inside comic-book artist’s studio shows on TV.

Wednesday 12 March 2014

Sneaky Peek.

For anyone who can’t wait until Saturday, I remembered earlier today while signed into my deviantart account that I already had Page 28 up posted on there as a sequential sample page (best to avoid sequential sample pages on my devaintart account full stop if you don’t want any spoilers at all. Not that I posted any spoiler heavy pages, or even any pages from Chapter 4, but still…) There’s no word-balloons on it, so you’ll still need to tune into Babayka-Lives this weekend, but any eager beavers can follow this link and get an early peek.

Worth following this link if only to push my Deviantart counter closer to 10,000-hits. I’ve been working on something to post when I do reach that magic number, so that’s something to keep an eye out for later this year.

Saturday 8 March 2014

The Teddy Has Spoken.

Well, now the bear’s said it, it’s official… Tomorrow I’ll be posting two pages, but just a reminder that after that, I’ll be updating Saturdays only from the 15th. Considering we’re one chapter in now, and all the characters have been introduces (well… except you know who), I figure as a reader you’re either in or out at this point. Chapter one was very much the set up.  Now everyone knows the score, things can get a little darker and a lot bloodier in Chapter Two.

A web-comic is an ongoing thing, and I’m slowly feeling like I’m getting organized now. I’ve still got a million things to do to get Babayka-Lives out there, but with the first Chapter finishing today, I feel like I’ve taken my first couple of steps and I’m well under way now. Hope people reading Brides Of Babayka feel the same way.

Please send any and all feedback to the usually Email address. I have readers, but I don’t know who a single one of them is yet? Currently you’re all just statistics on a webpage. So please, feel free to drop me a line and say “Hi!” If you’re feeling brave. I promise to respond to all (troll free) correspondences. Considering I’ve just unleashed my first ever cliff-hanger today, I’d love to hear what people thought?

I’d like to end this blog post by asking for a moment of silence for poor Colin Mack. We hardly knew thee, Mr Mack.(Also I can’t remember if I mentioned it before, but I included the character sheets in the extra’s section at the back of the graphic-novel, as a bonus with the exclusive pin-ups and cover art for anyone sitting on the fence about buying the book, who might want to see those character sheets in print. There re-jigged from landscape to portrait, and I think they came out looking pretty snazzy.)

Tuesday 4 March 2014

Page Upload Update.

There’s good news and bad news. The good news is I’ll be uploading three pages this weekend, instead of two. The last page of Chapter One on Saturday, then on Sunday, a solid black page with ‘Chapter Two’ written on it, and the first sequential page of the second chapter (complete with partial nudity.) The bad news is that next week I’ll only be uploading a page per week after that. I need to give myself some time to draw new pages when Brides Of Babayka ends, so I’ll be posting one page every Saturday from the 15th of March onwards. I really want to post something every week without hiatuses, rather than blow-my-wad (of reserved pages) and then go for weeks without posting anything as I draw new material. I’m playing the long game with Babayka-Lives, and part of that is no gap weeks or hiatuses if I can help it. Plus a page-per-week seems to be the norm judging by most other web-comics.

It’s not a 100% certainty there’ll be a second Babayka book. We’ll just have to see how the next couple of years play out. But just so people don’t think I’m not doing any new artwork, here’s a photo I took on my phone recently to show I am generating new sequential pages. It’s in black-and-white because I got a new mobile for my birthday last month, and the camera had a black-and-white filter on it, and I wanted to test it out. It gives my snaps a classy look, I think. By-the-by, if you accidentally get a shadow outline of your head at the bottom of the photo, does it count as a selfie?

Sunday 2 March 2014

Feeling The Love.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been running an ad campaign over on Project Wonderful these last few days, or (hopefully) maybe it’s because people have been reacting well to the climax of chapter one. But whatever the reason, this weekend I’ve got my highest site visits rating since starting my web-comic back in December, which was a nice surprise. I’m sure some of those hits were things like people looking for a place to dump spam and so on, but it’s a big buzz to know I have returning readers. It was a massive worry of mine that I wouldn’t be able to build up a readership with this web-comic, so I was really glad to see so many tune in this weekend. It feels very awesome to have an audience.

Anyone who hasn’t checked out this weekend’s action, should get over to Babayka-Lives, where things are going from bad-to-worse for poor Colin.

Wednesday 26 February 2014

Vote Now.

I mentioned this on my deviantart page over the weekend, and I’ll just give it a quick mention here, also. I’m fast approaching 10,000-hits on my deviantart profile, and don’t know if I should mark the occasion with some artwork? I’ve noticed a lot of people do, and while I am working hard currently on new sequential pages, maybe I could free up a little time to do something… but what? So I’m just putting the call out for any potential ideas. See if there’s anything people would like to see me draw as a pin-up to mark this event. Maybe a yana pin-up? a self-portrait? some monster pic (possibly with a side-order of damsel in distress?) or maybe a follow up pin-up to one of my previous pin-ups? or something else completely? (obviously I can’t do a Babayka pin-up, as it would be a massive spoiler for the web-comic reading crowd, but any other suggestions are more than welcome.) You can simply put any requests below this very post in the comment section. Or if you have a deviantart account of your own, you can private message note me (it’s always nice to sign in and find you’ve got a note waiting.) Or best of all, use Babayka-Lives Email address. Put something like ‘10,000 hits art ideas’ as your subject heading. I would love to hear any-and-all ideas.

Speaking of deviantart, anybody wanting to check out my profile can find my page here.
