Run For Your Life.

I think by now a lot of readers have guess the link between the end of Brides Of Babayka, and the start of Babayka Land. But for those that haven’t, I’m sure this week’s instalment will give the game away.

Clearly Babayka and his Brides have been busy these last few months, since we last saw them, entertaining new (sporty) guests.

A big thanks to all readers who dropped by this week to see the return of Babayka-Lives. We’re only two instalments in, and already something sinister is going down in Babayka Land.

Babayka Land Begins.

So as many of you may know, Babayka-Lives returns this coming Saturday (the 20th), with the start of the second book in this web-series… Babayka Land.

For diehard canon fans, Babayka Land takes place around four months after the events of Brides Of Babayka (look out for a little nod at the start to something mentioned at the end of B.O.B.) I’m reluctant to give any real synopsis of Book Two, but let’s just say the hunt for Babayka is on.

I kind of saw the job of Book One as to introduce the characters of Babayka and the Brides, and where they live and what they do to readers. With Book Two, now the groundwork is out the way, it’s more about world building, and character development. As mentioned, the follow up won’t be another ‘group of unwitting strangers are tricked into visiting the hotel and are picked off one-by-one’ story, as I feel that tell has been told in B.O.B. (even though there are those who would maybe just want that from Book Two.) I wanted Book Two to be a bit more unpredictable, and menacing, as well as its own story, and not just a clone of Brides Of Babayka, although there will be plenty of nods to the first book.

Again… just to mention with the start of Babayka Land, the art will be moving to a half-page, landscape format. This is both so there can be more updates during the year (although Babayka-Lives will still be updated weekly and on Saturdays), and because I feel it looks and reads better on computer-screens and devices.

So I hope regular readers will be excited about the start of Babayka Land, and be tuning in this Saturday for the first instalment over on Babayka-Lives.

Just a quick follow up on my previous post. I am currently still open to the idea of doing a Pin-up swap with other artists on creator owned projects. If you do an indy webcomic or horror project and would be interested in doing one, get in contact. Please read my previous blog post entitled ’Creator-owned Pin-Up Swap’ for the details.

Any feedback, fan-art, questions or inquires are also welcomed. It’s always nice to sign into my deviantart page\email inbox and see correspondence waiting. You can get in contact with me either through deviant art, or by simply Emailing me.

The Half Truth.

Before we return to Babayka Land next Saturday (the 20th), I feel first I have to warn readers of the biggest change that’ll be happening with Book Two. While it will still be updated weekly and on Saturdays, you’ll notice with the new pages of Babayka Land, that the pages have gone landscape, rather than portrait, as with Brides Of Babayka.

Truth is I had already started Brides Of Babayka, and was into the final chapter, when it dawn on me this story would make a good ongoing series. At that time, I had only ever thought of it as a single graphic-novel, and by the time it struck me it might make a good webcomic, I was nearly finished. Therefore I never really thought of it being presented any other way but US comic-book size and in portrait.

Just to give readers an idea of how new Babayka-Live pages are gonna look moving into Book Two, I’ve made a mock up of one using a scene from Brides Of Babayka (which can be seen below.) Babayka Land will be roughly about the same page count as Brides Of Babayka when it‘s completed, but posted half-a-page at a time, rather than a full page like Book One. Well… That’s not true, actually… There will be a fair few full pages, but they’ll be surprises, and pop up at certain points during Book Two.

I’m sadly not a fast enough artist to do a full page (pencilled, inked and lettered) in one week. So I figure it was either a full page every fortnight, or to keep my weekly schedule, and change to half-pages format. I will say I think landscape looks better in some ways, as it works better on a computer screen. I figure readers would rather have less regularly, than the same irregularly. My main aim is to make sure something goes up every week, and not miss or skip weeks, which happens so often with webcomics.

During the last two years of uploading Brides Of Babayka every week on Babayka-Lives, I think I only ever miss two posting dates during 2014 and 2015. And both were because my internet services let me down. I plan to try my hardest to make sure Babayka Land isn’t any different, and that’s the reason for the format shake up. You may get a little less this time around, but hopefully by now you’re in it for the long haul anyway, now Babayka-Lives has a whole book behind it, and a second on its way, hopefully readers will feel invested in this web-series.

Creator-Owned Pin-Up Swap.

One of the things I’m hoping to do more over the next couple of years, is maybe do some pin-up swaps with other horror artists\webcomic creators. I don’t get a lot of time to do pin-ups, but I usually do a few a year, so if you are also in the horror business, and wanna sort out a swap, get in contact and hopefully something can be set up. I had a lot of fun recently doing my take on Grindhouse duo Rose and Viktor, and it got me thinking I’d be open to drawing other indy creator’s characters (when I can), support other series, plus it would be great to see Babayka or any of the Brides done by another artist.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please don’t just do a Babayka-Lives pin-up without contacting me first, send it to me, and then expect me to draw you something right back. As mentioned, I only get to do a few pin-ups a year, I’m not the fastest artists, so any pin-ups I do will need to be worked into my schedule beforehand, and all swaps need to be agreed upon first. Basically, if I haven’t agreed to draw it, I don’t owe it to you. My pin-up drawing time is very limited, I’m afraid, so please do Email ahead if you are a horror artist\webcomic creator and interested in doing one. Only creator-owned swaps will be considered (i.e. the character(s) you wish me to draw, must be owned by you.)

I currently, hopefully have something in the pipeline for my next pin-up, but I’m sure there will be others this year. Plus it’s always good to hear from other creators/horror lovers, so do get in contact if you are interested.

Also, any and all Babayka-Lives fan-art is very welcome. If you’re a Babayka-Lives reader, and feeling creative, and wanna show the series some love, send me your take on Babayka, Yana, Vera or any of the Brides. However you express yourself (Fan-fiction, Computer Renderings, Ice Sculptures, etc, etc), I’d love to see it.

So if you’d like to propose a creator-owned pin-up swap, or have some Babayka-Lives fan-art you wanna send my way, or any questions, just contact me at Babayka-Lives Email address.

For My Birthday.

Had a very Junji Ito heavy birthday yesterday. Got two of his comics, and the animated film version of Gyo as birthday presents. I honestly think one day people will talk about Ito in the same way they talk about Poe, Lovecraft or Stephen King.

I also finally got my hands on a copy of the film of John Dies At The End, which I enjoyed a lot, actually. It was great to finally see it. It’s a film I feel deserves more love.
