HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year for tomorrow. I can’t believe another Christmas is already over.

It’s been a weird year of ups and downs for me, this year, with lots of drama. I feel like I’ve got very little done in 2019, but hopefully that’s not true.

My plans for 2020 are a bit all over the place at the moment. I know I’d like to do another Vampire pin-up or two in the coming year if I can get a model or something set up. A pin-up with a very Hammer Horror vibe to it (if I had more time, I’d go into my disastrous attempts to get a Vampire pin-up off the ground this year).

Also, even though they’re probably very out of fashion at the moment, I’m very aware I haven’t drawn any Zombies for a long time now (we’re probably talking years). So I’m not sure how, but I’d love to slip in a quick Zombie pin-up too this year, if I can. As well as some kind of sequel to Silences By Silk.

I do plan to start 2020 off with an usual pin-up that people might not be expecting. I don’t usually dabble much in fan-art, but it’s a famous British horror comic book character I’ve been wanting to draw for years. A character I’ve always wanted to try in my style. So hopefully some people will get a quick out of seeing me do that.

A big thanks for those that supported my artwork this year, and hope you have a great New Year tonight, everyone.

See you all in 2020 (which sounds very futuristic).

The Last Of The Year.

This weekend’s update of Babayka-Lives is both the last of 2019, and the last of its current run. But have no fear, there’ll be more Babayka action in 2020, so keep watching this blog for the latest news.

I also hope all readers had a happy Christmas earlier this week.

Tuesday 24 December 2019

Merry Christmas 2019.

A very quick and cheerful MERRY CHRISTMAS, everyone. Hope you all have a good one this year.

I’m very tired from working on a new secret pin-up with a tough deadline recently (more details on that soon, I promises), as well as good old real life problems to really get into the Christmas vibe too much this year, if I’m honest. But I am looking forward to breaking out the booze and relaxing a bit over the next 48-hours. I have a healthy amount of Vodka in my cupboard and a ridiculously yummy looking stollen to keep me going.

It was unplanned, but I seem to be having a slightly Vampire themed Xmas this year. I have Season 6 of True Blood and Count Yorga to binge watch over this week, and then will be very much enjoying the new BBC Dracula over New Year. (Fun side-bet… will 2020 finally be the year I manages to get another Vampire pin-up on the go?)

And also, just a quick reminder for those with any free time over Christmas who want something scary to read, that Babayka-Lives is currently being updated with new instalments this Winter, as the solders hunting Babayka get closer to their prey, but find their prey has a few sinister tricks of his\its own.

A big thanks to everyone who regularly swings by this blog to check out my latest art and shows support for Babayka-Lives. I hope you have a great Christmas.

Thursday 19 December 2019

Double-Ended Witch Fingers?

What kind of monster has double-ended Witch Fingers on his\its elbow pads?

A really sick one, that’s for sure.

A real Super-Fiend.

Sunday 15 December 2019

Scare Tactics.

This weekend on Babayka-Lives, the bones fly, as the trap tightens around Newton, Oleg and the Solders, as they fall foul of mind games and scare tactics.

Thursday 12 December 2019

You Be The Judge.

I still can’t go into any real detail yet about the theme of my new pin-up, but if you look really carefully, there might be a couple of subtle clues you can decode for yourself in this photo.

I’ll give you one hint… I’ve spent wwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy too many hours this week drawing pockets and pads.

Saturday 7 December 2019

Under Attack.

It’s a very ‘trigger happy’ blog update this weekend…

As firstly, Serrock and Co try and shoot their way out of the bony booby trap they’ve just walked into in this week’s instalment of Babayka-Lives. As they find themselves surrounded by death.

And secondly, I thought I’d share this pistol-packing work-in-progress photo from my latest pin-up. I still can’t really go into too much detail at the moment, but as you can see, the image does contain some good old gunplay. And I will be required to draw a very, very tricky futuristic gun.

I’d still one day really like to draw a Western comic (even though no one sadly reads Western comics anymore).

Friday 29 November 2019

Them Bones.

Newton and Co face the rot, as they come face-to-face with some of Babayka’s former victims, in this weekend’s instalment of Babayka-Lives.

Sunday 24 November 2019

A Trap Is Sprung.

This weekend, a trap is sprung, as Serrock and his men come under attack while hunting for Babayka. Have the solders just unwittingly walk into their own doom? Find out at Babayka-Lives.

In other news, I’m desperately trying to get another secret pin-up underway before the year runs out. I can’t give any details about it at the moment, but here’s a very early work-in-progress shot below, to give people a taste.

Sunday 17 November 2019

Weekend Horror.

Head over to Babayka-Lives now for another weekend instalment of sequential horror, as the search party makes a grim discovery, while trying to track down their fleeing target.

I have to confess, this week’s update ends on probably my favourite cliffhanger so far during Babayka Land. I’d be very surprises if any readers can guess what happens next.

Friday 8 November 2019

Farther Into The Darkness.

Can Serrock and his men find the mysterious naked girl before something even more grisly finds them first?

Find out this weekend, as the hunt continues on Babayka-Lives.

Saturday 2 November 2019

Playthings Of The Dead.

Serrock and co have their doubts about Baransky’s story of a naked phantom girl in this weekend’s instalment of Babayka-Lives, which has just gone up.

Hope everyone had a good Halloween and enjoyed the Sand Thing pin-up and Yana character sheet from earlier in the week.

Considering I wasn’t expecting much this Halloween and had lowered my expectations, I actually had some fun moments and watched some good horror films. My Halloween was low-key, but with some memorable moments.

Wednesday 30 October 2019

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2019.

A Happy Halloween to all. Hope you’re having a good one this year.

We’re giving in to our mucky side this Halloween, as SLASH-UPS celebrates and shows some love to the often overlooked horror sub-genre of Muck-Monsters. While they might not be the smartest or sexiest creatures in pop culture, many would argue they’re probably the grossest. What they lack in personality, they make up for in yuckiness.

So please enjoy our SLASH-UPS Halloween offerings for this year. I think it’s fair to say we’ve both gone for two very different type of Muck-Monster. Those being…

Beware the deadly Sand Thing. Andrew’s desert dwelling giant made of sand and animal bone. An update of a previous 2011 concept given a new reworking and redesign. Out in the desert, no one survives an encounter with Sand Thing.

And check out the mulch madness that is James’s Compost Lyn. Eco friendly, maybe, but a foul mouthed smelling Muck-Monster who will punish all those who dare to litter.

Enjoy, and I should also mention we’re throwing around the idea of possibly doing a ‘VS’ pin-up at some point down the line. So if folks wanna see two particular SLASH-UPS villains ‘duke it out’, we’d love to hear your suggestions or who you’d vote for.

And if that wasn’t enough Halloween scares for you, don’t forget that Babayka-Lives has returned this October as Babayka Land continues. The search for Babayka goes to a very dark place (literally). As well as the bonus treat for all Yana fans, as she gets her own character sheet. See the Queen Of Mean in all her glory this Halloween.

Tuesday 29 October 2019

Yana Nomass Character Sheet.

A little pre-Halloween treat today, for all my blog readers. Hope you enjoyed the return of Babayka-Lives on Saturday, and as an extra bonus for Babayka fans (just to up your Halloween chills), please enjoy this new Yana character sheet.

There’s no two ways about it… Yana Nomass is by far the character I have drawn the most in my comic book career. From her introduction on the very first page of Brides Of Babayka, to her current bloody misadventures in Babayka Land. While the series might be named after Babayka, I very much see her as the comic’s public face. I purposely try and keep Babayka ambiguous and unknown to the reader, while Yana does all the hard work.

Plus who doesn’t love a late teens, early twenties, brunette, Russian femme fatale? Over the years, she gone from Babayka’s trusty henchman (or rather woman), to probably my favourite character. I often wonder if she does have any fans out there among readers, or if her scary nature frightens them off.

This Yana character sheet is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now. Just to put it in context, I did Babayka’s character sheet back in 2015. So I’m very glad I got time recently to finally finish it.

You can see Babayka character sheet HERE.

And the original Brides character sheet HERE.

Friday 25 October 2019

Final Reminder.

This weekend, to celebrate Halloween, Babayka-Lives returns.

It’s time to finally find out what’s waiting for Newton, Oleg, Serrock and his men on the other side of that ominous giant hole.

Will they survive… Or will they really join the dead…

Saturday 19 October 2019

For Those That Halloween Hard.

If like me, you plan to throw yourself into Halloween this year to escape the horrors of real life, let me just remind folks Babayka-lives has you covered (since I seem to pretty much forget every year around this time to mention it).

As well as a secret bonus Babayka treat this Halloween, the webcomic itself also returns next Saturday (October the 26th) as Babayka Land continues. Finally find out what is waiting on the other side of that forbidding giant hole, as the search for Babayka gets intense.

Also, for people looking for good scary reads this Halloween , just a reminder that both Brides Of Babayka and the first part of Babayka Land are available on Amazon.

Brides Of Babayka is a complete 116-page graphic novel that can be found HERE.

Babayka Land is Part One of Three (basically the first 32-pages), and can be found HERE.

Both books come with extras like pin-ups and character sheets, and all sales really do help this series.

2019 might have been a bit Babayka light so far this year, but it’s certainly not gonna end that way.

Sunday 13 October 2019

Digital Drama.

Yikes… it’s depressing how close I came to loosing all my current digital files of Babayka-Lives this week and having to cancel its Halloween return.

Technology is really not being very kind to me lately, and I don’t have the money to buy newer and kinder technology to replace it.

Sunday 29 September 2019

Things Get Mucky This Halloween.

Previously in SLASH-UPS, we’ve tackled ghoulish Vampires and dangerous Killer Animals, but now it’s time to get dirty this Halloween, as we do Muck-Monsters.

Often found in swamps and bayous, although they can lurk pretty much anywhere, Muck-Monsters are nature’s not so little joke at the human race’s expense. Usually hulking giants of mulch paying a hefty price for messing with unknown science, or just dangerous freaks of nature, who pick off people out in the wild on their own, Muck-Monsters are large nightmarish muddy abominations.

To make sure we’re all on the same page, we should probably lay down some rules and on what constitute a Muck-Monster, as this is a much smaller horror sub-genre than our previous two, and maybe not as well known. Therefore Muck-Monsters must be (A) Monstrous, but usually humanoid in shape. Most Muck-Monsters often start out as humans, who unwittingly end up bonded with nature against their will. And (B), The Muck-Monster must be made up of only organic and natural matter (I.e. dirt… plant life… bones… etc…). Nothing manmade.

These are the basic rules we’re sticking to for this challenge. No Creature From The Black Lagoon style Gill-Men or other monsters that just happen to live in a Swamp like most Muck-Monsters, or are a bit unkempt. No Solomon Grundy or Swamp Zombies either. Just walking creatures made-up of crud.

To celebrate and announce this, we’re releasing a new posters today (which you can see above). And extra nerd points to anyone who can name a famous Muck-Monster that isn’t Swamp Thing or Man-Thing?

So watch your back this forthcoming Halloween, and avoid all boggy ground, as things get mucky.

Sunday 22 September 2019

Word Search.

I really wish Google had a dictionary setting as an option, as that’s mainly what I use it for now. To check the spelling and meaning of certain words I’m unsure about. And every time I Google a word to make sure it’s right, the first result always seems to be for a weird and obscure company named after whatever word I’m trying to double-check.

Saturday 14 September 2019

One Last Quirk Of The Summer.

I know the Summer’s over here in England (partly because the other day, an old man shouted at me for being out without a jacket). But I do have one last quirk of the Summer to share. Something I spotted recently that I needed to take a photo of.

Over the Summer, a lamppost near me has been taken over by surrounding weeds and plant life. About ten… maybe twelve foot of lamppost, getting choked by greenery. It’s like something out of Day Of The Triffids. It looks like a prop from a post-apocalyptic movie.

Ok, that’s my last word on all things Summer related… switching to Halloween mode now.

Wednesday 11 September 2019

Blog Lightly.

Been working on a lot of new comic scripts lately. Trying to get new ideas fleshed out and written down, and just trying to figure out how to put together a really good and solid script. Hopefully this should pay off if I do go on to work on horror stories with other artists in the future.

The only downside to this is it’s not very visual, and doesn’t really give me anything exciting to post on my blog right now. Unless folks wanna see photos of a very tired looking guy hunch over a laptop?

This part of the year is also the quiet before the storm that is Halloween.

Friday 6 September 2019

Faceless Yana.

This is a work-in-progress photo, but even without a face, I think readers can probably guess who it is.

Saturday 24 August 2019

Closer Than Most.

It’s a good week for any and all Yana fans out there, with this second Yana drawing.

I don’t always feel I quite get Yana’s look right while drawing her in the comic. I don’t always think she comes out looking like how I see her in my head. But this above drawing is pretty damn close.

Also, it’s nice to be back drawing pretty girls, rather than dead creepy crawlies.

Tuesday 20 August 2019

Yet More Yana.

To celebrate the return of Babayka Land this Halloween, and as a treat for all Yana fans, here’s a pencil drawing of pop cultures meanest Bride.

One of the things I really wanted to achieve with Babayka Land, was to really nail down the look of both Yana and Babayka. To get their look in my head straight. It’s an ongoing process, but I feel I’m getting close.

Without doubt, Yana has to be the character I’ve drawn most during my career and she’s still subtly evolving.

Friday 9 August 2019

Incoming Babayka News.

If all goes to plan, I should be making an announcement on Babayka-Lives this coming weekend.

So tune in tomorrow for some much needed and long time coming Babayka news, folks.

Sunday 4 August 2019

Dead Fly Inked.

Just some dead fly action to end the week on.

It’s really a very small panel on the finish page, so I had to blow it up a little, but hopefully people can make out all the decease insect details ok.

Saturday 27 July 2019

The British Summer Time (Take Two).

Just because I felt a bit guilty for the unflattering English Summer photo I posted last month of a dead Bee in a Spider-web on a gloomy day, and just to show we do get nice sunny days where I live, here are two Summer photos I took this week whilst out on a couple of hikes.

Friday 26 July 2019

Spot The Fish.

This game’s like Where’s Wally, but instead of looking for Wally, you’re looking for Carp (or whatever kind of fish they are).

I promise there are two in this photo somewhere.

Tuesday 23 July 2019

Just 100 More Days.

I can tell it’s the middle of the Summer, because it’s boiling hot outside and sunny, and I’m inside already prepping for Halloween.

It’s the price I pay for being a horror comic book writer\artist.

Sunday 21 July 2019

Slow Search.

My internet is so slow lately, that when I click the Browser Icon, by the time my Homepage has finally loaded and come up, it’s taken so long I’ve forgotten why I clicked it, and what I was gonna search for.

Sunday 14 July 2019

New This Weekend.

Just to keep the Babayka-Lives momentum going this weekend, I posted a couple of new pages over on my Deviantart account.

You can relive the moment Baransky first comes face-to-face with his naked attacker here.

And the latest scene from Babayka Land when a grim discovery is made here.

And just a reminder my Deviantart page does also have a hefty folder of Babayka-Lives artwork from both Brides Of Babayka and Babayka Land also that readers might enjoy checking out.

Wednesday 10 July 2019

I’m Not Above Bribery.

Although I haven’t maybe mention it as much as I should in 2019, I can assure people Babayka-Lives related things are still currently very much in the works, and the series is due to return later in the year. Have no fear, folks.

And speaking of things I need to mention more, but always forget, I should point out that the Babayka-Lives fan-art folder is always open for submissions. I seem to be cursed, as everyone so far who has done me a pin-up or some art, either doesn’t have a Deviantart account, or stops using and deletes their account, leaving a very unfed looking folder. So if you’re a creator on Deviantart and want to show this series some love and change this depressing situation, it would be great to see some Babayka or Yana or any of your favourite Brides Of Babayka or Babayka Land characters (living or dead) themed art.

I keep trying to think up something I could make and give out as bribery to artists kind enough to have a go at some Babayka fan-art. Preferably something digital I could send out, but not sure what yet? Any suggestions are also welcome. Currently I’m leaning more towards maybe Babayka-Lives themed Paper Dolls, as I had a blast making the Slasher one of me for SLASH-UPS a couple of years ago, and keep meaning to do some more. Or failing that, maybe some one-off Babayka-Lives single page stories or one-off pin-ups. I also have a couple of other ideas, so if submissions pick up, I will try and do something as a thank you for artists.

Until then, the Babayka-Lives Fan-Art Folder, as always, can be found here.

And I can be contacted about all things Babayka-Lives related here, for those with suggestions or queries.

Keep watching this space for more updates soon.

Sunday 30 June 2019

Dead Fly.

I’m amazed how many bugs and dead insects I seem to be posting on this blog recently. For some reason creepy-crawlies seem to be a big theme in my work lately. Not really sure why.

Even in Babayka Land, they’re creeping their way into the story, as this latest panel shows.

Anyone reading this blog with Entomophobia must be hating my updates recently.

Wednesday 19 June 2019

Yana In Progress.

I feel like I’m jinxing myself, posting an image before it’s finish…

But this blog could do with some Yana action this Summer (even if it’s only a work-in-progress photo) for Babayka fans.

Wednesday 12 June 2019

The British Summer Time.

I can’t think of a better image to sum up my current mood concerning my Summer so far this year than this photo.

I woke up today to find another gloomy overcast morning outside my bedroom window waiting for me, as well as the depressing sight of a dead Bumble Bee cocooned in a newly spun spider web. One of the most iconic creatures of Summer, trapped and hanging upside down, as its lifeless bug eyes watch me through the window.

Also as I write this, I am currently battling a cold I picked up after getting caught in the rain on Monday. I can feel my Cold and Hay Fever fighting for supremacy in a tiny epic war in my poor sinuses.

I need some Sunshine and Vitamin D.

Tuesday 11 June 2019

On Target.

There are many ways to fight Monsters… Some choose Prayer and Holy Water… Some choose Fire and a Crucifix… And some choose large Combat Shotguns…

Here's a sneaky peek at some Monster battling action.

Wednesday 29 May 2019

White Tack Monster.

I can’t really say right now why I had to make a little White Tack Monster this week (white tack being blue tack… but in white), but I thought I’d show my results here on my blog quickly anyway.

White Tack is great for making little models, I’ve found, but you lose a lot of the shape and details when you handle it, which ain’t so good.

I also wish I could say what kind of monster I was going for with this little model, so folks could judge how well I did, but for now it will have to remain a mystery. I can give people zero clues.

Monday 27 May 2019

Hike Of Horror.

Things are moving along pretty well on SLASH-UPS: Volume 2 for the moment. There’s been a few setbacks in the last couple of weeks, the biggest being one of my flash-drives becoming corrupted and me losing some important artwork files (that was a depressing and dark moment).

One nice thing that happened last week while out on a hike (pretty much the day after the horrible incident with the faulty flash-drive, in fact), was I came across this awesome boggy swamp while on my travels. It’s located just on the way into a local Nature Reserve, and looked both stunning and creepy in the bright sunlight. I’m now currently just trying to think how I could use this new found gift from the Gods in a future pin-up, maybe? I’m also planning on trying to take some more photos of local spots that might make good backdrops for horror pics this summer, as well as flirting with the idea of trying to do some in a famous local haunted cave. Eek!

Tuesday 21 May 2019

Both Beautiful And Deadly.

It’s been way too long since we’ve had any Yana on this blog, so allow me to put that right today. Of all the monsters I’ve ever created as a horror comic book artist, she’s still my favourite.

So to celebrate that, here’s a work-in-progress shot of Yana in profile, looking both beautiful and deadly.

Monday 6 May 2019

Falling Shotgun In Ink.

More falling shotgun action to start the week. This time inked.

For something that wasn’t part of the original design, and was just drawn in at the last minute, it’s probably one of my favourite parts of the image now.

I’m now debating whether to add ‘motion blur’ during colouring, or if that will ruin the lovely linework?

Monday 29 April 2019

Web Of Fear.

Again, a big thank you to people who showed our SLASH-UPS: Nature Runs Amok Easter pin-ups some love over the last week. It was great to finally get them out there.

I don’t usually post many of my thumbnails online, but here’s a quick look at a couple for my 'Silences By Silk' pin-up, just to show some early drafts of the basic concept. It was always going to be Amy being swarmed by spiders, and then the idea of being cocooned by webbing slowly started to work its way in there.

The idea of a 'Web-Gag' came much, much later.

Wednesday 24 April 2019

In More Detail.

Just a quick reminder for anyone who wants to see my new pin-up, ‘Silences By Silk’ in more detail. Just head over to my Deviantart page now, where it has been posted for all to enjoy.

You can see the Black-And-White linework here.

And also the coloured copy here.

Hope people enjoyed our new SLASH-UPS pin-ups last weekend, and a big thank you to anyone who showed them some love with a nice comment, feedback or a Fav.

Let us know if there’s a horror sub-genre you think we should be tackling next.

Saturday 20 April 2019

Nature Runs Amok This Easter.

Nature Runs Amok this Easter, as SLASH-UPS returns as we happily unveil two new killer critter themed pin-ups this holiday weekend.

While Zombies, Vampires and Werewolves have been around for a while now, surely the Animal Kingdom is Man’s earliest fear (and unlike Zombies, Vampires and Werewolves… are actually REAL). How many of our ancestors found themselves the victims of Cave Bears, Saber-Toothed Tigers or Titanoboas in years gone by? An inbuilt unease of Mother Nature is second nature for most people in the modern world.

So settle back this Easter, as things get primal, and mankind is back on the menu. Although anyone with Arachnophobia or Molluscophobia might want to skip these two new scary offerings.

‘Silences By Silk’ is the tale of a young Arachnologist named Amy, who heads into the deepest darkest part of the woods in search of rare spiders in Andrew’s pin-up. Things don’t go as planned, though, as she soon finds herself prisoner of the arachnids, as she can only watch in horror as they work together to entomb her in their communal web.

And pass the garlic butter, as Escargot strikes back, in James’s pin-up, as Paris comes under attack from a giant gastropod from hell in ‘Attaque D’Escargot!’. Trapping its victims in a river of slime to stop them escaping, can anyone flee the wraith of this colossal continental sucker, or will it be Bon Appetit for the classy diners of France in this nightmarish image.

A massive thank you to Amy Crosby for taking time out of her super busy schedule and modelling for SLASH-UPS again. It’s always a thrill and pleasure to have her onboard. When she’s not wearing a Pith Helmet and hunting rare spiders, you can find Amy and her work at her awesome website.

Below you can see both pin-ups posted together. Enjoy and have a great Easter, everyone, and watch out for more SLASH-UPS pin-ups and SLASH-UPS: Volume 2 related news happening later in the year.

Wednesday 10 April 2019

Little Shotgun Guy.

Another 'before the magic happens' shot today of a drawing in progress.

This time a tiny little guy shooting off his shotgun while standing between a very sloppy pair of legs.

Sunday 7 April 2019

Falling Shotgun.

Channelling my inner John Woo this weekend with this photo.

I put this in my pin-up as a kind of background detail, but now I kind of like it.

Saturday 23 March 2019

Coming This Easter…

Nature is very much red in tooth and claw this Easter, as we happily announce that the next SLASH-UPS horror theme will be ‘Nature Runs Amok’, I.E. killer animals (think Jaws, Cujo, James Herbert’s Rats).

The Animal kingdom gets its revenge this Spring with two new pin-ups by myself and James base around the theme of nature running wild. No one is safe, as we celebrate all things beastly, creepy-crawly and squawky this coming Easter weekend, as nature bites back.

It was great ‘wetting our fangs’ on the Vampire genre last Halloween, and we hope folks will get a kick out of seeing us tackle killer critters next.

Above you’ll see I’ve made a new snake themed promo poster to mark this event. I tried very hard to think of the perfect image to show the struggle of ‘man vs. nature’ to get everyone in the right mood. This is my attempt.

So nail shut those Cat Flaps, grab your Bug Spray and give the Easter Bunny a wide berth this April. As anything with Fur, Scales or Feathers is probably out to get you.

I can reveal one fun fact to wet peoples’ appetites before the carnages begins next month. I got to tick something off my artistic bucket list with my forthcoming pin-up by actually getting to draw a Pith Helmet with my offering (I have a weird bucket list). No spoilers, but here’s a sketch I did while doing mine of my model wearing it I can share to tide people over until next month.

So to sum up, ‘Chicks In Piths’ vs. cold and cruel Mother Nature this coming Easter.

Wednesday 20 March 2019

Now With Inks.

A photo for those that like to see both pencilled and inked artwork.

This photo is so high-quality, you can see the many, many patches of white-out from me trying to cover up all my many, many smudges.

Tuesday 12 March 2019

The Zombie Dilemma.

Here’s a very small cluster of Zombie doodles I did recently while doing thumbnails.

I find myself in the dilemma that Zombies are very overused and out-of-fashion at the moment, after years of overexposure. Pop culture seems bored with the undead now and has move on to killer clowns and so forth. I can’t remember the last time I read a really good Zombie comic, or saw a really good Zombie movie in recent years.

And yet after about four years of not having drawn any, I have to confess I have really been fighting the urge to do a Zombie pin-up lately.

Monday 11 March 2019

A Little Serrock.

This is new (only just been pencilled) artwork from later in Babayka Land. So new in fact, the page it’s from hasn’t even been finished yet. But I thought it would be fun to start the week with a little bit of unseen Serrock. Something for all those waiting for the return of Babayka-Lives later in the year.

Sunday 10 March 2019

Both Itsy And Bitsy.

Spiders on a Sunday seems to have started being a tradition on this blog lately. A very creepy-crawly way to end the week.

Arachnology has never been more dangerous.

Thursday 28 February 2019

Barley A Doodle.

This drawing was so quick, it’s barley a doodle. I probably drew it in the time it takes for you to read this current sentences. And although it’s gone now (rub out of existences by an eraser), I thought I’d take a photo of it and post it anyway, as I like it.

Plus it also hints at things to come and something I hope to be doing later in the year. Believe or not, this is actually a new (and very basic) design of an existing character of mine.

Saturday 23 February 2019

Horror Sub-Genre Suggestions.

Before we very shortly announce the theme of the next SLASH-UPS challenges in the coming weeks, and to get people in the mood, I thought I’d quickly put a shout out for anymore horror sub-genre suggestions readers might like to see?

Volume one had such themes as Killer Dolls (in our case a killer Sex Doll), Zombies (both regular and Pumpkin-Headed) and the slasher genre (where SLASH-UPS gets its name from). But is there any horror sub-genres people think we’re overlooking or missing? Anything people would like to see done in a future edition of SLASH-UPS? Maybe a certain monster or monsters you’d like to see included?

We kicked things off last Halloween by tackling the Vampire Genre, which was a lot of fun, and something I’d like to return to at some point. We’re be getting ‘back to nature’ with our next SLASH-UPS challenge soon. But where from there? Werewolves…? Mummies…? Killer Gnomes…?

Also is there any themes from Volume one people might wanna see again? Currently there’s no plans to bring back any characters from the first book. But we’re open to hearing if people would like to see more of something?

Any and all horror sub-genre ideas and monster requests are welcome, and feel free to get super obscure with your suggestions if you’re a horror nerd. Although I don’t know how we’d tackle something like ‘Mumblegore’ or ‘Cyber Horror’.

If we see the same names coming up again and again, I might try and make an online poll so people can vote on the most popular ones later in the year.

Arachnophobia In Colour.

Look away now if you hate either spiders or spoilers or both…

But I thought I’d end the weekend with some coloured spider action from a forthcoming pin-up. A little something to bring out the arachnophobic in all of us this Sunday night.

Freshly Posted.

For those missing their regular Babayka-Lives weekend action, I should point out I’ve just posted two unlettered pages over on my Deviantart page people can check out HERE and HERE.

Or just simply check the ongoing Babayka-Lives folder on Deviantart HERE.

Dropping The Shopping.

I’m secretly hoping 2019 is the year I get to add some more Babayka-Lives fan-art to my Deviantart Babayka-Lives fan-art folder. It could use some fattening up, if anybody wants to feed it art?

Also I have to confess, I’m kind of considering maybe shutting down my Etsy Store this year at some point too, sadly. Babayka-Lives is (for good or bad) totally a one-man show, and so I haven’t really been able to give my online store any time or love or really do anything with it since it started. I very much like the idea of making and putting out Babayka or Yana themed knick-knacks and oddities on the side to help with cost, but struggle to find the time to do so or set anything up (plus the daily Etsy emails drive me mad).

My plan in the beginning was to maybe hook up with other arty creators (like plushy makers and print makers, etc, etc) and put out some Babayka-Lives related merch that way. But with all my time going towards actually making the comic, this hasn’t really happened yet.

That said… I would be very open to hearing what folks might like to see me sell if I do keep it going? Another setback and something I haven’t really had time to tackle is even just thinking of things people might wanna see in my store, so all feedback is very welcome and really does help. As always, Babayka-Lives contact address can be found here

I have watched youtube videos on how to make homemade action-figures and done research like that, but realistically it really would be stuff I could do on the side in my downtime, and in a small workspace with a small budget. Although maybe one day I’ll meet an indy action-figure maker and team-up with them on some Babayka and Brides toys.

I also enjoyed doing the Slasher paper doll of me on the cover of SLASH-UPS back in 2017, and have played around with the idea of maybe doing some Babayka themed ones at some point in the future, too, if people would like to see those?

I sadly just suffer from the curse of having more ideas than free time to do them in, annoyingly. I’m sure many of you are probably the same.

Scary Spider Sunday.

What better way to end the week, then with some more terrifying spider action.

Just between you and me, I think this particular spider is my favourite of all the many eight-legged creepy crawlies I’ve had to draw recently. He just seem the most organic looking of the bunch.

The big question is who or what has he caught in his web, though?

Infestation.

It’s crazy how many spiders I’ve had to draw and ink recently. I figure I must have drawn well over a hundred legs lately. Here’s a sneak peek at sixteen of them.

With all these Rats, Bees and Spiders posts recently, it’s like this blog is infested.

ZOM-BEE.

Christmas might be over for another year, but here’s a little slice of unseen Xmas 2018.

It’s a card I did last month drawn in the theme of the next SLASH-UPS challenge (which I’m still not announcing just yet, but also not really doing a very good job of hiding).

I’m actually pretty pleased with this sketch, considering I did it so quickly and was so worn out when I drew it.
