Sushi-Girl And Friend.

My latest effort at doing a pin up. Women and creepy looking monsters seems to be becoming a theme with me. The two most fun things to draw…well…to me.

I usually like to post artwork on this blog first, and then wait a couple of days before putting it up on my DeviantArt page, as I only like to put up my best work on DA. But I’ve really been wanting to tart up my DA page. So for once I’ve posted this image up on there first. If I’m honest, it’s too soon to say how I really feel about this image and if it’s any good or not. If you notice that it suddenly disappears off my DeviantArt page in a couple of days, you’ll know it’s because I’ve suddenly realised it’s crap and I should have fought harder against my urge to “tart up“.

Go HERE if you want to check this image out…errr, again.

Also turned my old pin up OCT into a snazzy deviant ID pic.

I need to chill out for a bit now and think of something else to draw. I’m running on empty a bit this week. I need some inspiration.

Recommend.

I don’t do it enough, but I had fun playing about with the light (or lack of it) and shadows, on the character in the foreground of this panel. The problem with turning someone into a giant silhouette is they’ll either look really cool, or they’ll look a bit flat and naff. I think I got away with it here.

Been reading the second volume of Shade The Changing Man, this weekend. I bought the first volume about four\five years ago because it was only £2 in an MVC store (with the £2 sticker stuck over the face of Shade on every copy.) I had this copy floating around for years but could never bring myself to read it. The art was a bit hit and miss inside and if it wasn’t so cheap, I never would have bought it. This copy would get lost under piles of things and I’d forget I had it, then when I would unearth it, I thought I might just throw it away as I’d never read it and it was taking up much needed space. However last year I was short on reading martial and after unearthing it again and again debuted if I should bin it, I decided to read the first issue, just because I really like Peter Milligan previous work. That night I went from having nothing to read, to reading one of the best graphic novels I’d ever read. If you ever spot a copy of Shade The Changing Man: The American Scream, it is an amazing comic. The only downside is they’ve got these beautiful Brendan McCarthy covers, but he never draws any issues, which is a massive shame. As if the inside of the comic was as funky as the covers, this comic would have been huge.

Finger Food.

I’m feeling a bit daring this week. I may post a couple of shots from Project B.O.B. I’ll see how the week pans out. But here one, anyway.

It’s meant to be a bit of a ‘down time’ period for me at the moment. A chance to recharge my batteries. And yet I’ve already pencilled a pin up this week. To be fair I haven’t had a chance since Invasion, last year to draw something for the portfolio, and I am taking it pretty easy this week. It’s nice just to be able to draw whatever pops into my head. I just want to fatten up my DeviantArt page a little bit before the summer.

I Must See This Film.

Please tell me someone’s gonna be putting this out on Region 2 DVD, at some point?

Also I was flicking channels the other night when I came across this film on Filmfour. It was already halfway through and I couldn’t really watch the rest as I had to get up early for work the next morning (I was really shit out of luck that night.) I was really pissed off, and checking the TV guide this week, I don’t think they’re gonna be repeating it. This film looks so good, I really want to hunt down a copy.

Expensive Stains.

Ever get that feeling you’re being watched? Going for a very slight sense of paranoia with this panel.

Feels good to have all of the artwork done for issue one. By now I’ve cleaned up the remaining artwork with a rubber, scanned it, cleaned it up again digitally, resized it, and nearly lettered it all. Was a scary moment over the last few days, when my printer started playing up. Printing pages with lines across them for some reason. Considering I need my printer now more then ever, I wasn’t happy. But this morning I just started messing about with it, and taking out the cartridge and cleaning that. It seemed to make things worse, then better. So I just printed out as much as I could while it wasn’t acting up. I just hope it’s going to let me print off the remaining artwork this weekend. My hands are covered in printer ink, which I’m also not happy about. It’s not the fact that they’re inky (my hands are usually covered in Indian Ink) it’s just I keep hearing people say how much Printer Ink is, and how it’s actually a more expensive liquid then Champagne. Every time I look at my hands now, I’m just trying to work out the cost in my head of how much I’ve wasted. I reckon it’s about 50p worth… but I did fix my printer, so fuck it.

Cyber\Iron Man.

Just because this picture made me smile.

Also it’s a reminder that I still haven’t got round to seeing Iron Man yet. It’s been out for ages and Iron Man 2 around the corner. I need to find a copy…fast!

I was also very tempted to post this one.

Part-Time Gamer.

Exciting times as I start to wrap up issue one. Mainly exciting because it means soon I’ll be able to hopefully fit in time to do a couple of pin ups for the portfolio at some point soon. Been fighting a killer urge to draw one of these bad boys a lot lately. But until then, I’m all about Project B.O.B.

I know I said a few posts ago, that my video game playing days were over (more or less.) But then nine days later I came across this bit of news. So it looks like I spoke too soon. Because looking at those screen shots, there’s no way I’m missing out on that.

Been thinking lately that now I’ve got a half decent laptop, I may even buy some PC games. Just wish I wasn’t so out of touch and actually knew of some decent PC games.

I Have Always Secretly Wanted A Cape.

Or at least one of those cool little Zorro eye masks.

I know this website says it’s real, but if I ordered an invisible plane and a giant empty box turned up… I’d be pissed off.

In other news. Just been checking out the new look Freddy Krueger. Which I kind of like. The fact that he looks more like a burns victim then supernatural, kind of works for me. Saying that, I won’t be rushing out to see this film. I’m a little burnt out on horror movie remakes. Even the better ones like Dawn Of The Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, never really come close to bettering the original. I saw the remake of Friday The 13th a few weeks back, and was a little disappointed. If I start seeking out more original ideas and newer horror movies, maybe Hollywood will take note… Errrr, that said I did order both remakes of Night Of The Living Dead this week on DVD… Errrr, whoops!

All being well, I should be starting on the last page of the first issue of Project B.O.B. this weekend. I’m just trying to block out the fact that I’ve been drawing so much lately, that I never want to see another pencil again… “sigh.”

{NOTE} I see that the Superhero website link has been acting a little dodgy, so if you’re clicking the live link and it ain’t working on your computer, It’s www.superherosupplies.com you’re looking for.

Sinful.

Going for a sexy yet sinister look with this panel. Actually the whole comic is meant to be a little bit sexy and sinister.

Finally got round to trying out my HD laptop screen with iplayer HD channel. It’s kind of true what they say about noticing and being taken aback by famous people first time you see them in HD. Been watching Sophie Dahl’s cooking show and her cheeks looked extra rosey. I was also very aware of David Tennants lower teeth while watching The Waters Of Mars in HD for some reason. I might get round to watching the new Doctor Who episode in HD this weekend (which was stunning in case you didn’t watch it) but now I’m too scared. HD a bit too personal. It like walking up to someone, grabbing them and have a really good squint at them.
