Happy New Year.

Is it weird that I kind of wish 2016 was a person, so I could then beat it mercilessly with a plank, and then back over them in a car a few times, maybe, and then finish by setting 2016 on fire and burying it in the woods late at night? Or is that just me…?

Hope everyone had a good Christmas last week, and a Happy New Year for tonight. I myself have been spending my Xmas holiday thusly:

Catching up on Game Of Thrones: Where my unhealthy Melisandre Of Asshai crush thickens. One of my New Year resolutions for 2017, I fear, must be to stop crushing on mean girls.

Wondering how long a chest infection can humanly go on for: If you are currently suffering one, too, I’ve found sucking on a really strong cough lozenge while having a super hot shower helps… well… for a little while, anyway.

Watching people play the beta on youtube of Friday The 13th: Also watching people play Dead By Daylight and Lakeview Cabin. Man, it really is a golden age for Slasher video-games right now.

While I, like many people, won’t be sorry to see the back of 2016, it has had some highs also. It’s been great to launch Babayka Land this year and move Babayka-Lives forward. I’ve also enjoyed branching out and starting to work with other artists and models, which is something I wanna keep going in 2017. I have at least one big project coming working with someone else next year, and possible some more models and monsters pin-ups in the pipeline, as well as one or two side-projects. I can’t really make any promises right now, as when working with other artists\models, stuff can and does fall through, so all I can say is watch this space.

Also, there’s only a few more instalments of Babayka Land to go, as we head into 2017, before I take a very short break in the New Year, and return soon after that. Until then, tune in to Babayka-Lives this weekend to see if Newton and his sister can safely escape with their new friends.

So HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE… I very much hope 2017 turns out to be the lifeboat fleeing the shipwreck that was 2016.

The Stash.

I think we can all agree you can judge whether someone has been a good or bad boy that year by the quality of the presents Santa brings them on the big day. So here’s how I made out this year.

Clearly Santa was going for a bit of a Slasher theme this Christmas.

Saturday 24 December 2016

Merry Xmas 2016.

The good news is, like Santa, today I come bearing gifts. The bad news is, also like Santa, first I insist you sit on my lap, and have been known to randomly turn up in your house in the early hours of the morning looking for milk of cookies.

Gift One: Since it’s the season for sharing, I thought I’d share this photo of a pin-up I’m currently working on, which is halfway through being inked. As you can probably see, this new piece of art features the return of The Skinny-Dipper Ripper himself… Uncle Gnaw. A character I’m trying to develop a little in my spare time. No doubt readers have probably notices I’ve been flirting pretty hard with the Slasher genre this year.

Gift Two: Because nothing says Christmas more than mercenaries trying to wipe out a pack of wolves with a flamethrower, here’s this weekend’s Christmas Eve edition of Babayka-Lives (which, FYI, has nothing to do with Xmas). Will this bold move be enough to save their lives? Tune in today to find out.

So it being Christmas Eve, I should really wish all readers a Merry Xmas. Hope you all have a good one, and get a chance to detox a little from the mind-fuck that was 2016. I will be about over Xmas if anyone still wants to get their feedback in at the usual address. Fair warning, though, I’m now officially breaking out the booze, as it’s both the weekend and Christmas.

P.S. Does it feel weird that Brides Of Babayka ended just over a year ago now, folks? Feels weird to me.

Three Years Old Today.

As mentioned previously, today is the third birthday of my horror webcomic series, Babayka-Lives. This third year has been a lot more easy going than the first two. During the first two years I had to deal with losing my internet connection twice for long periods for no reason, until the only way I could fix it was to change internet provider. And of course the biggest set back was in January 2015, when my site was hacked beyond repair, and had to be moved and rebuilt. Therefore compared to 2014 and 2015, I have to say 2016 has been a lot less stressful. I think the closes I came to missing an update this year, was back in January, when I was so chilled out from resting over Xmas and New Year, that I forgot what day it was, and thought a Saturday was a Friday, and didn’t realize my mistake and post that week’s instalment till lunch time.

Truth be told, I was a little nervous going into Book 2 this year, as I was a little worried a lot of readers might jump ship after Brides Of Babayka ended in late 2015, but was happy to see that wasn’t the case. So a big thank you to all my regular readers throughout 2016. From spooky Babayka back-story lore, to poor, lone, Canadian, lesbian hockey players being taking out while fleeing on the moors of Krayvengrad, to Wolfpacks being burnt to a crisp by a mean, bearded mercenary with a flamethrower… No one can say it hasn’t been an eventful year over on Babayka-Lives. And hope people are looking forward to 2017, and travelling deeper into Krayvengrad.

And for anyone wondering… yes… there will be an instalment of Babayka-Lives this Christmas eve. So tune in for a day early Xmas present this Saturday.

Thursday 15 December 2016

From Motel Hell.

I have no idea if this Vincent Smith (in killer pig mask mode) from Motel Hell figure is real or fan-made, but I think it’s very cool, none the less. I actually only saw Motel Hell for the first time a couple of years ago, when they put it out on Blu-Ray here in the UK. I kind of like that it has an unofficial Texas Chainsaw Massacre spin-off feel to it. Who knows… maybe their real family name was Sawyer, and they change it to Smith for safety? Isn’t Smith the first name people think of when they have to think up a fake second name?

While I don’t really collect many, if any, action figures myself (because of lack of funds and space for them), I am a big fan of the look of a good action figure, however. Like I’ve said before, I don’t think a characters made it in pop culture, until he\she has been turn into an action figure. Readers might well remember I got so into the idea, I even drew a mock-up Yana action figure in box back in 2015. One day I may well get around to doing a Babayka one, too, if I ever get the time.

Be sure to tune into Babayka-Lives this weekend… where the wolfpack onslaught continues.

Friday 9 December 2016

Feedback Wanted.

I thought since I haven’t put a call out for feedback for a while now, I’d sneak in a quick one before Xmas. We’re almost at the end of another year of Babayka-Lives action, what with the series hitting its third anniversary on the 20th this month. So it feels timely to do so now, and I’d love to hear readers thoughts on Book 2: Babayka Land. So if anyone has any thoughts, comments or questions, as always, you’re very welcome to send them either via Note through my Deviantart page, or to the usual email address.

Possible feedback topics could include… Is there anything that’s come up in Babayka Land that has left readers perplexed? Who’s your favourite character from Book 2 and why? Scariest or favourite scene thus far, perhaps? Anyone you’d like to see return from Book 1: Brides Of Babayka?

Or even non-Babayka related feedback is welcome, if you have thoughts, questions or feedback on other recent artwork of mine. Is there any pin-ups you’d like to see a follow-up to? Any horror or peril theme you’d like to see me tackle in 2017? Would you like to see more models and monsters mash-ups, maybe?

As always, I do make an effort to reply to all non-troll-y feedback. So if you have any, I’d love hear it, or answer any questions you might have.

And don’t forget to tune into tomorrow’s instalment of Babayka-Lives, where we find out what happens when wolfpack meets flamethrower. Only one can prevail… find out who this weekend.

Currently Reading.

I always knew sooner or later I was gonna give this book a try. Just as a fan of both lead characters, I found them being apart through most of Book 2 and 3, and then knowing they’d never properly be reunited kind of a bummer. You can clearly see that wasn’t where the relationship between them was meant to end, at the end of The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest. Honestly, I would have preferred if someone had finish off the 70% complete forth Stieg Larsson book, and kind of hope that still happens one day.

I’m not really gonna give this book a massive review, as I’m only 167-pages into it so far. While it does clearly lack that Stieg Larsson touch, I am kind of enjoying it. I’ve notice there seems to be less love and story for supporting characters, like Erika Berger (although this might change later in the book), as the pacing is more like that of the movies.

I have to confess, I still don’t know how I feel about the idea of authors’ characters being carried on after their deaths. As of right now, I’m leaning more towards ‘necessary evil‘, to keep that character (or in this case ‘those characters‘) alive. I can see why, and in many ways am, one of those people who want to see new adventures starring Blomkvist and Salander.

Saturday 3 December 2016

Dirty, Stinking Mutts.

It’s not often that an instalment of Babayka-Lives has so little dialogue in it, you could fit it into the title of a blog post… but today’s update is one of those rare occasions.

Enjoy… as things start to heat up in Krayvengrad.

To Avoid Disappointment.

One thing I think we can all agree on in these difficult and dark times… is that nothing says Christmas more, than a delightful tale of a small group of male, British bachelors, stranded in a remote Russian hotel, slowly being picked off one-by-one in ever more gruesome fashion by an ungodly and ancient monster, and his beautiful but deadly, young female cohorts.

And from your Mother, to your Lover, to your evil, deformed Twin Brother who you keep chained in the basement and feed stray dogs and rain water to at night… no doubt everyone would love to get their hands (or deformed paws in your twin brother’s case) on a signed and doodle in copy of the graphic-novel, Brides Of Babayka. The first book in the Babayka series. With ten pages of extras, including two exclusive pin-ups only to be found in the graphic-novel, and of course an individual sketch and signature in every copy, it makes the perfect gruesome gift this Xmas for all horror fans. For those that like something a little dark and scary with their mince pies.

I only ask that anyone who is considering taking advantages of this new deal and ordering a copy for themselves, or a friend, or loved one this Xmas, to avoid disappointment, please order early. If you wanna 100% safely make sure your copy turns up by Xmas next month, order now to make sure you don’t miss out. And that goes double (if not triple) for anyone ordering outside of the UK.

Personalised and signed copies of Brides Of Babayka with an individual sketch can be bought this Xmas from HERE.

If you have any questions or need to double-check anything before ordering, you can Email me HERE.

Anyone planning on ordering a copy, but always leaves their Xmas shopping to the last minute has been warned. I’m currently still battling a nasty winter virus I picked up recently, and so have the energy level and speed of an old man right now. So as an early Christmas present you could give yourself this year, order early, and avoid tear soaked turkey and falling out with your mutant, basement twin this Xmas.

No… but seriously… order today (or very, very soon) if it is important to you your copy turns up in time for Christmas.

Tapped Out.

Readers following Babayka Land on Tapastic will be pleased to hear I’ve finally got around to uploading part 4 today. It’s the scene of Oleg telling the tale by campfire, of how Babayka turned the Russian village of Krayvengrad into a ghost town. It’s pure lore, for those that like spooky back-story.

I have to say, I have a sneaky feeling Tapastic has fallen out of favour with a lot of webcomic readers recently. I’ve notice my own readership has dropped over on their site, and comics I follow have either stopped, or hardly ever get updated these days. Feels like in 2016, a lot of people have jump off the Tapastic boat, as it were. I get the feeling most of my own Tapastic Babayka-Lives hardcore readership just go straight to the main site these days, and only a few stragglers remain. I’ll see how things pan out going into 2017, but if you do read my webcomic over on Tapastic and would be heartbroken if I stopped posting on there, let me know via Email, and I’ll no doubt keep it going.

Speaking of the main site, tune in this weekend to see if Newton, Elizabeth, Oleg and their new armed friends can survive, as the wolf-pack closes in on them. Can they think of something quick and drastic to save themselves, or is this misadventure over before it began? Find out their fate this Saturday.

Also, just a reminder. After nearly seven years on Deviantart, I’ve finally got around to sorting my gallery into folders recently. So when you next hit up my gallery section on there, you’ll find all my Babayka-Lives artwork now in its own handy folder.

Monday 14 November 2016

The Ripper Returns.

Here’s something I don’t think I’ve ever posted before. I’m pretty sure I didn’t post this when I did it a while ago, because I didn’t wanna leak the title “The Skinny-Dipper Ripper” online before I had finished my cover with the same name.

I rarely get a chance to do any playing around on computer with artwork, because of lack of time, but here’s something I did briefly get to do. It’s what I think Catch Of The Day would look like if it was a Video Nasty VHS cover from the 80’s. I have to say, even though it’s pretty rough, and just me playing around, I kind of like it. I got to flex my graphic-design muscle doing this cover. I’d like to try and do something else in this style, maybe, down the line.

Here’s a fun game. Can anyone guess the font I stole to use on this mock poster? Big horror nerd points to those that can.

He's Behind You.

Just to round off this Halloween week, here’s the black and white version of He’s Behind You from the start of the week. The latest pin-up in my Monster and Models series.

I don’t think in the whole 9 year history of this blog, I’ve ever posted a colour version of something first, and then the black and white version later. So this is a first for me. I also wrote a little story to set up this image which I only posted on Deviantart, but will correct that now and post here, too.

He’s Behind You:

After her car dies on her on a lonely road one dark night, beautiful Boo is force to make a long and lonely walk back into town. Cold and frustrated, she looks bizarrely out of place, as she takes a detour through the woods in her favourite little black dress and high heels. Thankfully, she knew the area well, as she had often played there as a kid, and therefore even in the dark, knew the route she must take to get back to civilisation. As she folded her arms and kept walking, she remembered as a kid, the other children would often tell spooky tales about these woods. About the tall and hideous thing that stalked the woodlands at night. The monster that would sneak up behind its victims, and in a flash, put its gruesome hand through their chest, and steal their still beating heart. And how the last thing they’d see, was this hellish thing standing over them gobbling up that stolen heart. Boo shivered as she remembered this story she hadn’t thought about for years. A cold chill ran down back… and then another… and then a another… as Boo slowly realizes these cold chills were wet and actually strangely warm, and without knowing it, suddenly her heart was now beating a million miles per hour, as she turned to see what was breathing down her neck.

Once again, a massive thank you to Boo Peril for posing for this pin-up. She makes an amazing Scream Queen, and you can find more of her work on her Devaintart page.

Thursday 3 November 2016

All In One Place.

Even though I’ve been on Deviantart for nearly seven years, I’ve only just today got around to grouping all my Babayka-Lives artwork into one folder. But I glad I did, as you can know easily find it all in one place. From early Brides Of Babayka pages from back in 2010, to up-to-date Babayka Land stuff. Pin-ups, unlettered sequential and more. All now in their own convenient folder. Enjoy.

Happy Halloween 2016.

Happy Halloween to all. Hope you’re all having a good one.

I have to say mine has been a very mix one this year, full of ups and downs. Kind of great and terrible, both at the same time. On the negative side, there’s the usual pitfalls of real life that have overshadowed my Halloween a little bit this year. Plus the fact that one of my all time favourite and most influential artist pass away recently. And then to top it all, just as Halloween started to heat up, so did I, as I’ve managed to come down with something nasty this week, and am currently in recovery mode, and therefore had to miss out on some of my Halloween plans recently, which I was very much looking forward to. It’s very hard to justify being around friends, when there’s a good chance you could infect them and ruin their Halloween, too.

However on the plus side, after a summer of watching very little horror and feeling a bit burnt out on the genre, I am happy to say I’ve seen a few horror movies these pass couple of weeks that started to get me back into the mood (Highlights include: Wrong Turn 6, Excision and Eyes Without A Face.)  Also, while real life might had been a bit of a blow out this year, things on the art side of life have been a lot better of late. Firstly, I have a secret project I’m working on with another artist that seems to slowly be coming together better lately. Something that hasn’t been announce yet, but we’re hoping to get out in 2017. And speaking of collaborations, I’ve also been lucky enough to work with two awesome models, and produce two new pin-ups this Halloween season. Firstly, there was the return of Mercedes The Muse, as she again found her late night skinny-dipping adventure rudely interrupted by the fiendish Uncle Gnaw (AKA: The Skinny-Dipper Ripper.) And now I can happily announce I’ve also been lucky enough recently to work with model Boo Peril on a new piece of artwork, which I’m posting today as my Halloween offering for this year. Witness the moment after late night car problems on a remote road, that Boo suddenly realizes on her walk back into town, that she is not alone that cold, dark night in this new image. A massive thank you to both Mercedes and Boo for taking time out of their busy, busy schedules to work on these pin-ups and help make them happen. And hope people enjoy them. For more details on this new pin-up, including a small story I’ve written to go along with it, head over to my deviantart page.

And if that wasn’t enough of a Halloween trick or treat… head over to Babayka-Lives this Halloween, where there is an extra gruesome instalment waiting for you, just in time for everybody’s favourite morbid holiday.

Tuesday 25 October 2016

Skinny-Dipper Ripper Coloured.

Again, for those that like their inbred, hillbilly cannibals in colour, here’s The Skinny-Dipper Ripper cover coloured. The prequel to previous pin-up ‘Catch Of The Day’.

This image is really meant to be a mash-up of 50’s horror comic covers and 80’s slasher movies. A video nasty done EC style. As Mercedes The Muse and her late night hook-up soon regret deciding to do some midnight skinny-dipping, when local urban legend and mad man ‘Uncle Gnaw’ decides to crash the party.

I think this is honestly the longest I’ve ever spent colouring up a pin-up. I really wanted the cover to look worn, and a little bit grimy and tatty. Like a comic that could have been around since the 50’s, and has only recently been rediscovered. This is a theme and style I’d love to return to again.

Hope everyone enjoyed the return of Babayka Land on Babayka-Lives this weekend just gone.

Monday 24 October 2016

Strange World.

Is it weird that the nicest thing said to me all day was from junk mail from sex drug peddlers?

P.S. I’ve censored the sender, so as not to make this blog post into a giant ad for them. Even if I do kind of like seeing my name with a giant tick next to it.

Wednesday 19 October 2016

The Wait Is Nearly Over.

Just a quick reminder that yes, Babayka-Lives does indeed return from its summer break this weekend. If you’re in full Halloween mode, and have been missing your weekly updates of Babayka Land recently, then I’m happy to say the wait is nearly over.

Watch  Newton, Elizabeth and Oleg run for their lives this Saturday, as the wolf-pack closes in.

Tuesday 18 October 2016

The Skinny-Dipper Ripper Cover.

I’m happy to say my Deviantart page finally hit 20,000-views, and so as promised, here’s a new pin-up to celebrate.

Enjoy...

One-eyed, pot-belled, inbred cannibal Uncle Gnaw stalks the lakeside late at night, just waiting for anyone foolish enough to take a late night, moonlit dip, who he can turn into his next meal. For these hideous crimes, the locals have named this urban legend… The Skinny-Dipper Ripper.

Unfortunately, tales of this savage, backwoods monster had not been heard by drifter\pole-dancer Mercedes The Muse, as she and a local trouble maker who she had met while working her shift at a strip club earlier that night, decide to cool off by stripping off, and go for a swim. The wet fun and games don’t last long, though, as from the bushes jumps the evil Uncle Gnaw. Quickly judging Mercedes the tastiest of the two, he hacks her late night hook-up into pieces with his trusty hatchet, before claiming Mercedes as his own, and heading off into the dark woods with his latest catch.

The End?

As many of you know, this new faux horror cover is a follow up (actually, more of a prequel) to a previous pin-up of mine from earlier in the year called: Catch Of The Day. I have to confess, the first real horror genre I got into as a kid were 80’s slasher movies. They felt a little grimy and dangerous, and it was  fun hunting them down on VHS in second hand shops etc. So consider all Skinny-Dipper Ripper art a homage to my misspent youth. Really, looking back, I should have been using those years to chase girls, instead of watching a guy in a Hockey Mask chase girls on grainy videos, lol.

This is my third attempt at doing a 50’s EC style horror cover, and I think by far my best. No current plans for any more Uncle Gnaw right now, but if people would like to see more, let me know.

Again, a massive thanks to fetish model and star of upcoming Grindhouse movie Rose and Viktor: No Mercy, the lovely Mercedes The Muse for returning and posing for this pin-up. You can find more of Mercedes on her Deviantart page.

Also a massive thank you to all of you who regularly visit both this blog and my deviantart page.

Thursday 13 October 2016

Please Tap Generously.

Let me just point out that my deviantart page is now only 51-hits away from its 20,000-views goal. Once my page hits that target, I plan to celebrate by posting the follow up to ‘Catch Of The Day’, again staring the lovely Mercedes The Muse. This special pin-up has just been sitting on my deskstop, waiting to be unleashed on the world for a while now.

To help make that happen, please follow this link, and show my page some eyeball love.

Worth Repeating.

Even though Babayka-Lives doesn’t get going again until the 22nd, visitors will notice a new update has been posted today. In no way does this post count as an official Babayka-Lives update, so I’m ok with my self-imposed rule that the site can only be updated on a Saturday. I’m just very focus right now on trying to make sure overseas buyers receive their copy by Halloween by ordering early enough, by trying to get the word out sooner. So with that in mind, I thought it might be something worth repeating, by posting up the update here on my blog also.

As mentioned yesterday, for those that may be planning to order a signed copy of Brides Of Babayka for Halloween this year and live aboard, to be sure you do get your copy in time for the big day, it may be wiser to order sooner, rather than later, to avoid disappointment.

Tuesday 4 October 2016

Signed Copies Of B.O.B. Now For Sale.

So as we enter the spookiest month of the year, for all you Babayka-Lives readers and horror fans out there, I can now reveal something extra special for those looking to be super thrilled this Halloween.

Just in time for the most morbid day of the year, I’ve finally open my own Babayka-Lives online store. Admittedly there’s only one thing on there so far, but hopefully it’s something readers will be excited about, and want to own.

Yes, starting this very Halloween season, I can now offer signed and personalised copies of my horror graphic-novel Brides Of Babayka. Every book purchase from my new store will be signed by myself (the creator, writer and artist), and made out to you, or whoever you choose if it’s a gift for someone. And if that wasn’t enough to seal the deal, inside every edition, I also do an exclusive Babayka-Lives sketch of any character from the series of your choosing. From Yana to Vera, or even Babayka himself, each copy has its own unique and individual little bit of original art in it to truly make it one of a kind, and for you to own.

This signed edition does ship internationally, as I know even though Babayka-Lives is a UK comic, most of its readers are from elsewhere. Hopefully shipping costs to your part of the world should be covered, but get in contact for a quote if it isn’t. Also, if people have any thoughts on what else they’d like to see sold on my online store in the future, or any questions about this offer in general, please be sure to let me know via email HERE.

At this point I really haven’t decided yet if this will be a limited offer, or something I'll have for sale full time. So if you’ve ever fancied owning a signed edition of Brides Of Babayka, and want something extra spooky to curl up and read this Halloween, don’t delay in ordering. I would also advise ordering sooner rather than later so as to give any and all overseas buyers the best chance of receiving their copy by the 31st.

So you can find details of Babayka-Lives new online store on the webcomic itself HERE.

Or just go straight there to view this offer for yourself HERE.

To My Biggest Fan.

Good old John Smith. What a guy.

Saturday 24 September 2016

One For The Scrapbook.

So as foretold, if readers head over to Babayka-Lives this weekend, you’ll see Mr Wolf is no more, and instead has been replace with a new image, and the return date of Babayka Land. Yes, Babayka-Lives will be live this Halloween, so warn the villagers and find a safe hiding place (for all the good it will do ya.)

I always like to try and make cool looking placeholder cards for when Babayka-Lives is on its breaks. Hopefully give readers something cool to look at while they wait for the series to return. The reason the ones in the middle of the series get deleted when the comic starts again, though, is I don’t want them slowing down the story for new readers who wanna read all of Brides Of Babayka or Babayka Land in one go. I feel they’d be an unnecessary break in the storyline, and so I wipe them. But for the hardcore fans, I thought I’d repost Mr Wolf here on this very blog as an extra little treat for blog readers. Enjoy.

Also, no spoilers… but when I wrote “Who will survive” on Babayka-Lives today… I wasn’t joking. There will be carnages this Halloween.

Tuesday 20 September 2016

Rumour Has It.

So rumour has it Babayka-Lives might be getting an update this coming Saturday concerning the date when the series will return. I will say nothing further at this moment, but invite readers to tune in this weekend to find out more for themselves.

Until then, Babayka-Lives: Vol 2 on tapastic has just been updated. Relive the introduction of Newton, Elizabeth and Oleg in the meantime, as their misadventure into darkness begins.

Monday 12 September 2016

While We’re Waiting.

We’re in an awkward period right now, where news on Babayka’s return is just around the corner, but still a little way off into the future, and my deviantart account has yet to hit 20,000-views, and so I can’t post my follow up pin-up to ‘Catch Of The Day’, leaving me very little to blog about art wise.

So in the meanwhile, I thought I'd post this dick-pic style (thankfully, as you’ll see minus the dick) phone-pic of the latest piece of art I’m working on. I can’t really go into too many details just yet, but here’s some sinister monster action to end the summer on, to keep readers going until Babayka returns soon. Who or what this beastie is sneaking up on will have to remain a mystery for a little while longer, though.

Monday 5 September 2016

Dead Head.

Just a quick reminder for readers to keep hitting up my deviantart page, as once it hits 20,000-views, I’ll be posting the follow up to ‘Catch Of The Day’. Since we’re only 600-hits shy right now, I thought I’d post a tiny snapshot to whet peoples appetites.

Enjoy and keep clicking

Tuesday 23 August 2016

New ID Pic.

I’m not really one for flooding the internet with photos of me. I find myself in a weird middle-ground of being someone who thinks posting daily pictures of yourself is a bit excessive… but more-and-more, I’m also starting to really hate faceless anonymity. Both doing what I do (a webcomic if you’ve forgotten), and just being a modern internet user, I’ll happily find myself talking to a lot of strangers online. But it always bugs me when it’s anonymous user name, and the person has no ID photo. It’s strange, but I just consider it slightly less of an interaction, than chatting with someone by name and who has a picture of themselves up.

So with that in mind, I thought I’d update my profile photo online. Put a new and more recent pic of me out there, as it’s been a couple of years since my last one. Admittedly it’s only a crappy phone pic, but I kind of like it.

Friday 19 August 2016

This Weekend.

Babayka-Lives readers have two options this weekend while the series is still on its summer break.

You can either (A): Head over to Babayka-Lives on tapastic and read the latest update and relive the terrifying reintroduction of Babayka in Babayka Land.

Or (B): As mentioned over on deviantart this week, I’m currently working on a follow up to ‘Catch Of The Day’ again starring Mercedes The Muse. But I won’t be posting it until my page hits 20,000-views. So if you wanna see more backwoods debauchery, go give my page some hits (but not too many, as it’s still a work in progress.)

Thursday 11 August 2016

We Come In Pieces (Sounds Painful.)

Thought I’d just quickly post this short doc on anthology movies I found recently that’s very good.

I have a love\hate relationship with horror anthology. But that said, one of my dream side projects in life would be to put together and put out a horror anthology comic with other horror writers and artists. I’ve come close to trying to make it happen before. Hopefully one day it’s something I’ll be able to get off the ground. Babayka-Lives is already turning into a bit of an epic, with its page-count now in the hundreds. It would be nice to do something just quick and fun, like a short horror strip in a comic-book anthology. I think in reality, it would be more about hooking up with fellow gruesome likeminded horror creators that would need to happen, for me to be able to do it. But hopefully maybe one day.

School’s Out For The Summer.

Just to follow up on what I said over on Babayka-Lives today. Yes, the summer hiatus starts today, but won’t last too long. We’ll be back in the Autumn, have no fear. It would be great to maybe get some feedback from readers during this downtime. As always any feedback, questions or inquiries can be sent to the usual address.

Keep checking back to this very blog, where I will have news on Babayka-Lives return date soon.

Thanks for reading, everyone. Have a great summer, guys.

For Those That Fan-Art.

Just to echo something I said recently over on my deviantart page…

Just because I’m not writing\drawing Babayka and the gang this summer (actually, that’s not true, no doubt I probably will be), doesn’t mean you can’t. I don’t know the cross over of how many on the ‘Venn Diagram’ of people who read Babayka-Lives, vs those that enjoy doing fan-art in their spare time, but if any of you exists and feel like achieving a minor, nerdy, pop-culture achievement… I love to finally see some Babayka-Lives related fan-art. I’ve had a few people say they’re gonna do some, but so far, nobody has (unless they have and not told me about it, or not post me a link to it.) As far as I know, the accolade of person to do the first ever bit of Babayka-Lives fan-art is still out there for the taking, folks. Something to think about, if you start to feel arty, and you can’t decide what to draw\write\render\sculpt, etc, this summer.

I’d love to see readers takes on Babayka, Yana or the rest of the Brides.

Babayka-Lives Poster.

For anyone kind enough to wanna show Babayka-Lives some love, I’ve finally got around to making a poster for this web-series (actually, that’s not true. I’ve done an Babayka-Lives animated Gif before, and the infamous Yana crimson smile pin-up from 2014, which was my first go at doing some promo artwork.) But here we have Babayka himself front-and-centre, for those that enjoyed the opening scene to Babayka Land. I think this and the creepy smiling shot from the end of Brides Of Babayka are my personal two favourite drawings of Babayka.

Feel free to save this promo poster to your desktops for reposting, or head over to my Deviantart page for any needed URL links, etc. All online shout outs and support is greatly appreciated and really does help. If you enjoyed Brides Of Babayka, and are currently enjoying Babayka Land, please do consider giving Babayka-Lives a mention on your blogs, journals, twitter\facebook pages, tumblrs or however you like to put yourself out there online. It’s also a cool way for me to know readers are out there enjoying this webcomic. A big thank you in advance to those that do.

This weekend sees the final part of Babayka Land before the start of its summer hiatus. Tune in this Saturday to see who\what was behind that big explosion from the last instalment. Has Newton’s, Elizabeth’s, and Oleg’s luck run out already?

Art Up.

Over the short British summer period, there’s usually a few tasks I like to try and get done, so I don’t have to do them in the cold and wet winter months. One of them is to stock up on art supplies. I try and avoid soggy Bristol Board by going out and getting it when I know the sun will be out. As you can see from the above photo, this year’s mission is complete, but it was far from smooth sailing. Firstly, I pretty much picked the hottest day of the year to make my long trek to the local artshop. I don’t know if it is possible to die of dehydration through sweating so much, but I probably came close, it has to be said. And once I got to the artshop after my long, long, sweaty hike, I was greeted with an empty and boarded up shop, and a note that said they were out of business. Annoyed, tired and thirsty… I decided to make another long hike back into town to hit up a smaller artshop near the train-station, so my trip wasn’t a complete waste, and I could still pick up a couple of things, and order the rest online. This back up plan soon also went ‘tits up’, though, as when I finally reach the shop after another long and sweaty trek, again I was greeted by a locked door and a note. This time saying the artshop was close for the summer, and wouldn’t be open for another couple of months. I had to admit defeat and return home with zero art supplies, and all I had managed to pick up was sunburn, sweat stains, and bloody\blister ridden feet.

I hate ordering Bristol Board and Ink online, in case they get damaged in the post. As well as pencils, as surely the lead would be all broken inside from being manhandled by careless postman and workers in the sorting office. Sadly, though, I think this is my only option now. Unless some other artshop pops up in my hometown in the near future.

Meanwhile over on Babayka-Lives this weekend… Get ready for the summer cliffhanger next week, by reading this week’s mini cliffhanger.

Babayka Land On Tapastic.

For those who will miss Babayka-Lives when it goes on its summer hiatus soon. You can now relive the terror of those earlier pages of Babayka Land over on Tapastic during the main sites downtime this summer.

Enjoy...

Short And Scary.

One of the things I wanna get into more this year, is checking out short horror movies online. I kind of get the feeling it’s currently a golden age for them, I’m just trying to figure out the best places online to find them. If anybody has any recommendations for good videos or channels, please feel free to suggest them via the usual email address.

Here’s one I checked out and enjoyed over the weekend called: CALL GiRL.

Saturday 2 July 2016

Summer Hiatus.

In my first full year of running a webcomic back in 2014, I notices that over the summer, a lot of other webcomics would usually have a short break over the summer period. Around the same time, I also notice my own readership numbers had dipped a little during the summer months. This kind of made sense to me, as when the sun’s out, who wants to be sitting indoors reading a webcomic (especially a horror comic), and so last year Babayka-Lives took its first summer break, and the plan is to do so again this year.

I won’t lie and will own up to my own tiny blunder here. I had wanted to start my summer break around this time of the year, but with a cliffhanger just around the corner that I wanted to go out on, I think I must have done my maths wrong earlier in the year, as we actually still have at least a few more updates this summer before Babayka-Live summer hiatus. For those who aren’t big fans of summer breaks during their favourite ongoing webcomic series, my poor maths skills have worked in your favour, as Babayka-Lives will still be active for a bit longer this summer. It’ll be more of an mid\late summer, very early autumn break this year.

One of the perks of taking a yearly summer break, apart from actually being able to go out and enjoy the sun a little now, is I’m hoping to also get a pin-up or two done during my Babayka free time this summer. I won’t go into any details, but I do have a couple of ideas I’m keen to draw during my very short summer break, if all goes well. Things are very much a bit up in the air right now, but I do promises to try and get something pin-up wise done this summer. But I’ll have to be a bit cryptic over theme and content for now before I can make any official announcements

For a little while longer, though, please enjoy as our three lead characters head ever deeper into Krayvengrad (I.e. Babayka Land). No spoilers, but something big and nasty is heading towards Newton, Elizabeth and Oleg this summer. Find out what only at: Babayka-Lives.com

Back To Babayka Business.

As we work our way slowly towards this summer’s cliffhanger over on Babayka-Lives, just a quick mention that if you also head over to my deviantart page now, you can see three full sequential pages from Book 2: Babayka Land in their full glory, before any page cutting in half happens.

Big Mac Pizza.

I’m not gonna lie, I’ve watch this Big Mac Pizza youtube video way too many times now. I think this has to be the pizza I must wanna try in the world right now.

One of my biggest regrets is I’ve never made a decent homemade pizza before. I wish I could cook great pizzas like this.

Collaborate?

In no way am I tying myself to anything hopefully with this blog post, as at the moment this is all hypothetical… But I am currently flirting with the idea of maybe seeing if I can hook up with other artists in the future to work on new projects.

Firstly, I’ve been thinking for a while now it might be cool to start writing some smaller stories, and have other artists draw them. Either short stories, or a larger story that several artist work on in instalments, I’m not sure which yet. But I am considering either launching a new horror character and getting other artists to draw it, as Babayka-Lives is (and will probably always be) my number #1 priority, and I don‘t have the time to draw a second comic-book. Or maybe I’ll just simply write some short horror tales for fun, and have different artists drawing them.

I am also up for maybe doing some more Girls and Monsters type pin-ups down-the-line, too, sometime if any models are up for providing the reference and starring in a horror pin-up.

It’s always good to get in with other artists and being open to collaboration. I think that’s something I learnt from my art-college days. And that is something I’ve always liked about deviantart. You can talk to other artists, and most (sadly not all…) will be open to chatting back. I do feel sometimes multiple artists can achieve something just one artist on their own can’t.

Again, I’m not 100% saying this will happen… But right now I wanna be able to put together a list in my head of people who would be up for collaborating, and can be called upon if\when I move forward with any future projects. I guess right now, I’m just asking for people who are interested to throw their hat into the ring, as it were. To get in contact if they’re up for collaborating and just say “Hi” and introduce themselves.

If any of the above sounds tempting, people can either drop me a ‘Note’ on my deviantart page, or contact me via Email.

I look forward to maybe hearing from some of you. I do plan to draw more girl\monster pin-ups, and maybe launch a second webcomic at some point, so if you are a model or artists, please do consider dropping me a line. Even if it’s just a few words to let me know you’re interested.

Fetch The Hose.

Since it’s been all business on here lately, here’s a little ‘slice of life’ moment I thought I’d share, since it’s been a while.

Was out-and-about the other day in town looking around, and I thought I’d check out the graphic-novels in the local bookstore. I head into the bookshop and up the escalator only to find two nerdy looking young guys already there. Not being a very big graphic-novel section, I decide not to try and squeeze my way in, but rather I thought I’d just check out other sections of the book shop, and then circle back when they had moved on. And so I did, although it soon became clear, no matter where I stood in this pretty large bookstore browsing, I could not get away from the sound of these two geeky guys discussing all things nerdy, in loud voices, as it seemed pretty important to them that everybody in the store hear their words of wisdom on all things geek related. After a while, it became clear these guys weren’t going anywhere, and if I wanted to check out the graphic-novels, I had to squeeze my way in for a quick peek. However I soon learned this plan was not gonna happen, as when I returned to the graphic-novel section, I soon saw that by now, the geeky guys were both sitting cross legged on the floor in front of the books, with several graphic-novels open in front of them, and had unpack some take-out food they’d brought in with them, and were having a kind of indoor picnic. It was a weekday, and although these guys looked young, they had to be of at least college student age.

I think Amazon secretly pays creeps like these guys to go into bookstores and wear out the books until they’re shabby, cover them in greasy fingerprints, and block people from viewing them. They should keep a hose in store for people like this.

The Art Of The Booty.

I seem to be drawing a lot of female bottoms lately in my artwork… First there was Catch Of The Day last month, and now this above panel. When did I start turning into Paolo Serpieri?

Be sure to tune into Babayka-Lives to catch the latest update tomorrow. Who knows? There may even be another sexy bottom shot coming your way this Saturday in this week’s instalment (Spoiler Alert… there isn’t.)

Saturday 7 May 2016

Support Via Shout Outs.

We’re now officially, as of today’s update, 12 instalments into Book 2: Babayka Land. During the last few months, we’ve seen a female, Canadian, hockey player met a grisly end after a failed attempt to flee Babayka’s lair. Met the three main antagonists of our story. Had some spooky Babayka lore around the camp fire. And even finally got the name of the remote, abandoned village in Russia where Babayka-Lives takes place. Needless to say… I hope readers feel Book 2 has gotten off to a rocking start. Plus no spoilers, but there’s also the Summer break epic cliffhanger for people to look forward to. Let’s just say I plan to start this summer with bang.

If you have been impress by and enjoying these opening scenes of Babayka Land, though, and have read and enjoyed Book 1: Brides Of Babayka, please do consider maybe giving Babayka-Lives a shout out (no matter how large or small). Even if it’s as little as a name drop when someone next asks you what you’re currently reading, to something bigger like taking to the net and giving this webcomic a virtual thumbs-up and shout out via blogs, journals, twitter, facebook pages or however you express yourself online. After two years and 114 updates, I’m still getting return readers tuning in every week, so there must be people out there getting something from this web-series.

Shout outs (both online and in the real world), feedback and reviews are a great way to support Babayka-Lives, and really do help. If you have been enjoying this comic over the last couple of years, please do consider showing it some love. A massive thanks to any and all that do or have done before.

Babayka-Lives is updated every Saturday, and as always can be found at Babayka-Lives.com

You can also contact me with any feedback or inquires at Babayka-Lives email address HERE.

Catch Of The Day: Coloured.

For those that like their inbred, hillbilly cannibals in colour, here’s ‘Catch Of The Day’ coloured.

I don’t often get as much of a chance to flex my creative-muscle when it comes to colouring my artwork as I’d like, but I just couldn’t resist with this pin-up. This image is a mix of watching too many 80’s slasher movies as a kid, as well as a bit of a throwback to the old 50’s EC comics era, and I wanted to reflect that in the colours. As a nod to old horror comics, if you zoom in, you’ll see I’ve started experimenting with using colour halftones in this pin-up. I didn’t want to overuse them, and make the colour job seem gimmicky, but they’re there if you look for them. I also like that with colour, you’re a lot more aware that this scene is going down outside in the woods at night than maybe before.

I forgot to mention last time, I kind of see this pin-up as my take on the classic ‘Monster Carry’ scene from older horror movies. The giant, scary creature, creeping through the night, with a beautiful damsel in his arms (or in this case, over his shoulder.) Only here, hopefully more updated.

I am actually trying to develop this scene and character a little farther… you’ll be happy to know the monster in this pin-up now has a name, and even a nickname. I very much would like to draw this character again.

Ghost On Ghost Action.

At first I wasn’t sure if this Grudge vs. Ringu trailer was real or just some parody, but I think it’s official.

I have mix feelings about this film. On one hand I never thought we’d see a J-Horror ‘vs.’ movie. On the other hand, it’s been so long since anyone put out a monsters ‘vs.’ film, I’m kind of up for it.

More Lore.

It’s time for more Babayka back-story around the campfire this Saturday, as we dig deeper into what happened when Krayvengrad’s most notorious resident came to stay.

Check out the action at: Babayka-Lives.com

While it’s hard to tell sometimes, I get the feeling readers have been enjoying these current lore heavy instalments. People like a good monster back-story, I reckon. If you’re a long term reader, it’s nice to get some answers to things that were hinted at from earlier on in the series.

Friday 8 April 2016

Lore Galore.

Since we’re moving into the second story-arc of Babayka-Lives now, it’s time I started ‘Laying Down The Lore’, as it were. Filling in some of the blanks left over from Brides Of Babayka. I think readers will pick up pretty quickly why Book Two is called ‘Babayka Land‘.

Hear the ‘Lore Of The Land’ of Krayvengrad this Saturday at Babayka-Lives.com

I don’t usually post MEMES, but I have to confess, I like this one. It gets you thinking.

20,000 Page Views Pin-up.

For those who also follow me over on deviantart, I’m currently asking for pin-up ideas to draw to celebrate when my page hits 20,000 views later in the year. I like to try and do pin-ups as a thank you
to regular visitors to my account when I hit a certain number of views, and will be trying to do so when I reach 20,000 in a few months.

Check out my most recent deviantart journal entry for details.

The Name Of Babayka Land Is…

Wow, what are the chances that it’s the Easter period, and this week I’d have to draw a panel with a bunny in it?

Question: Does the actual remote Russian location where Brides Of Babayka and Babayka Land actually takes place finally get named in this week’s instalment?

Answer: Yes it does.

And it only took me two years, three months and a hundred and two pages to finally get around to name dropping it. A little bit of Babayka-Lives history is made today.

Friday 18 March 2016

Catch Of The Day.

So here’s the pay off to my last couple of blog posts.

As I mentioned last time, I have indeed been working on another girl and monster pin-up, only this one is a little different and something new for me. The difference being, this time I worked with a model on this image. I had always flirted with the idea of having a model pose for a pin-up, but right now with Babayka-Lives taking up all my free time, and lack of studio space and a decent camera also being a problem, it’s just something I haven’t been able to pursue. So a massive thanks to model Mercedes the Muse for being awesome enough to pose and help make this image happen. It was a lot of fun to pit fetish model against evil monster of my own creation, and something I‘ve been wanting to do for ages. I also think it gives the pin-up more character, knowing that it’s not just a generic damsel, but in fact a real life model starring in the picture, and makes it a lot cooler, too. Using a real life model and is something I wish I could do more often in my work.

Been wanting to do some feral, inbred, woodsman horror for a while, but could never find the right idea until now. This was going to be a follow up to my Nom Nom Nasties cover from a couple of years ago, but thought it was a strong enough idea in the end, that it would be better if I did it as its own thing. I really wanted to push the twisted beauty and the beast style aspect of this image.

Sometimes with pin-ups, I like to throw in a little blurb to set the scene. Here’s what I came up with for this image: Mercedes picks the wrong remote lake to do some lone late night skinny dipping in, as she find herself ‘Catch Of The Day’ for a prowling, local, inbred, cannibal hillbilly. Now a prisoner of this sinister backwoods dweller, she finds herself on her way to a ‘Dinner Date’, but can she escape before she finds out if she’s the ‘Dinner’ or the ‘Date’.

Again, a big thanks to Mercedes The Muse for taking time out of her busy schedule to play ‘Scream Queen’ for me. People can check out her work HERE.

Girl Meets Monster.

I rarely, if ever, post thumbnails on my blog. But keeping in theme with last week’s post, to wet your appetites, I thought I’d post the thumbnails to my latest pin-up coming your way very soon. Plus I thought some readers might get a kick out of seeing how my pin-ups start life, before I get round to drawing them.

I don’t wanna oversell this forthcoming pin-up, but it might be the best girl\monster one I’ve ever done.

Wednesday 9 March 2016

An Over The Cheek Peek.

Just a quick, crappy camera-phone pic of what I’m working on right now. Taking some time out to do a quick damsel and monster pin-up (although this one will be a little different, and something new for me.) Can’t say too much about it just yet, but here’s a sneak peek over the cheek for you all. Hope you enjoy.

This is one of those blog updates that makes no sense now, but hopefully when all is revealed, you’ll look back on fondly.

Saturday 27 February 2016

Run For Your Life.

I think by now a lot of readers have guess the link between the end of Brides Of Babayka, and the start of Babayka Land. But for those that haven’t, I’m sure this week’s instalment will give the game away.

Clearly Babayka and his Brides have been busy these last few months, since we last saw them, entertaining new (sporty) guests.

A big thanks to all readers who dropped by this week to see the return of Babayka-Lives. We’re only two instalments in, and already something sinister is going down in Babayka Land.

Thursday 18 February 2016

Babayka Land Begins.

So as many of you may know, Babayka-Lives returns this coming Saturday (the 20th), with the start of the second book in this web-series… Babayka Land.

For diehard canon fans, Babayka Land takes place around four months after the events of Brides Of Babayka (look out for a little nod at the start to something mentioned at the end of B.O.B.) I’m reluctant to give any real synopsis of Book Two, but let’s just say the hunt for Babayka is on.

I kind of saw the job of Book One as to introduce the characters of Babayka and the Brides, and where they live and what they do to readers. With Book Two, now the groundwork is out the way, it’s more about world building, and character development. As mentioned, the follow up won’t be another ‘group of unwitting strangers are tricked into visiting the hotel and are picked off one-by-one’ story, as I feel that tell has been told in B.O.B. (even though there are those who would maybe just want that from Book Two.) I wanted Book Two to be a bit more unpredictable, and menacing, as well as its own story, and not just a clone of Brides Of Babayka, although there will be plenty of nods to the first book.

Again… just to mention with the start of Babayka Land, the art will be moving to a half-page, landscape format. This is both so there can be more updates during the year (although Babayka-Lives will still be updated weekly and on Saturdays), and because I feel it looks and reads better on computer-screens and devices.

So I hope regular readers will be excited about the start of Babayka Land, and be tuning in this Saturday for the first instalment over on Babayka-Lives.

Just a quick follow up on my previous post. I am currently still open to the idea of doing a Pin-up swap with other artists on creator owned projects. If you do an indy webcomic or horror project and would be interested in doing one, get in contact. Please read my previous blog post entitled ’Creator-owned Pin-Up Swap’ for the details.

Any feedback, fan-art, questions or inquires are also welcomed. It’s always nice to sign into my deviantart page\email inbox and see correspondence waiting. You can get in contact with me either through deviant art, or by simply Emailing me.

Saturday 13 February 2016

The Half Truth.

Before we return to Babayka Land next Saturday (the 20th), I feel first I have to warn readers of the biggest change that’ll be happening with Book Two. While it will still be updated weekly and on Saturdays, you’ll notice with the new pages of Babayka Land, that the pages have gone landscape, rather than portrait, as with Brides Of Babayka.

Truth is I had already started Brides Of Babayka, and was into the final chapter, when it dawn on me this story would make a good ongoing series. At that time, I had only ever thought of it as a single graphic-novel, and by the time it struck me it might make a good webcomic, I was nearly finished. Therefore I never really thought of it being presented any other way but US comic-book size and in portrait.

Just to give readers an idea of how new Babayka-Live pages are gonna look moving into Book Two, I’ve made a mock up of one using a scene from Brides Of Babayka (which can be seen below.) Babayka Land will be roughly about the same page count as Brides Of Babayka when it‘s completed, but posted half-a-page at a time, rather than a full page like Book One. Well… That’s not true, actually… There will be a fair few full pages, but they’ll be surprises, and pop up at certain points during Book Two.

I’m sadly not a fast enough artist to do a full page (pencilled, inked and lettered) in one week. So I figure it was either a full page every fortnight, or to keep my weekly schedule, and change to half-pages format. I will say I think landscape looks better in some ways, as it works better on a computer screen. I figure readers would rather have less regularly, than the same irregularly. My main aim is to make sure something goes up every week, and not miss or skip weeks, which happens so often with webcomics.

During the last two years of uploading Brides Of Babayka every week on Babayka-Lives, I think I only ever miss two posting dates during 2014 and 2015. And both were because my internet services let me down. I plan to try my hardest to make sure Babayka Land isn’t any different, and that’s the reason for the format shake up. You may get a little less this time around, but hopefully by now you’re in it for the long haul anyway, now Babayka-Lives has a whole book behind it, and a second on its way, hopefully readers will feel invested in this web-series.

Wednesday 10 February 2016

Creator-Owned Pin-Up Swap.

One of the things I’m hoping to do more over the next couple of years, is maybe do some pin-up swaps with other horror artists\webcomic creators. I don’t get a lot of time to do pin-ups, but I usually do a few a year, so if you are also in the horror business, and wanna sort out a swap, get in contact and hopefully something can be set up. I had a lot of fun recently doing my take on Grindhouse duo Rose and Viktor, and it got me thinking I’d be open to drawing other indy creator’s characters (when I can), support other series, plus it would be great to see Babayka or any of the Brides done by another artist.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please don’t just do a Babayka-Lives pin-up without contacting me first, send it to me, and then expect me to draw you something right back. As mentioned, I only get to do a few pin-ups a year, I’m not the fastest artists, so any pin-ups I do will need to be worked into my schedule beforehand, and all swaps need to be agreed upon first. Basically, if I haven’t agreed to draw it, I don’t owe it to you. My pin-up drawing time is very limited, I’m afraid, so please do Email ahead if you are a horror artist\webcomic creator and interested in doing one. Only creator-owned swaps will be considered (i.e. the character(s) you wish me to draw, must be owned by you.)

I currently, hopefully have something in the pipeline for my next pin-up, but I’m sure there will be others this year. Plus it’s always good to hear from other creators/horror lovers, so do get in contact if you are interested.

Also, any and all Babayka-Lives fan-art is very welcome. If you’re a Babayka-Lives reader, and feeling creative, and wanna show the series some love, send me your take on Babayka, Yana, Vera or any of the Brides. However you express yourself (Fan-fiction, Computer Renderings, Ice Sculptures, etc, etc), I’d love to see it.

So if you’d like to propose a creator-owned pin-up swap, or have some Babayka-Lives fan-art you wanna send my way, or any questions, just contact me at Babayka-Lives Email address.

For My Birthday.

Had a very Junji Ito heavy birthday yesterday. Got two of his comics, and the animated film version of Gyo as birthday presents. I honestly think one day people will talk about Ito in the same way they talk about Poe, Lovecraft or Stephen King.

I also finally got my hands on a copy of the film of John Dies At The End, which I enjoyed a lot, actually. It was great to finally see it. It’s a film I feel deserves more love.

Thursday 28 January 2016

Rose And Viktor Pin-up.

So here’s the pin-up I’ve been working on of late and you saw hints of in my last blog post. I was approach by the lovely Mercedes The Muse to do a pin-up for the forthcoming Rose And Viktor comic-book, based on her Grindhouse style movie of the same name. You can see my take on her characters above.

I wanted to do a pin-up that was aimed somewhere between a comic-book pin-up, and a classic Grindhouse movie poster, with maybe a little bit of Frank Miller’s Sin City thrown in there. I’m pretty happy with the design and layout of this image, but for anybody wondering, I did have to draw and ink the female character (Rose) twice. I know a lot of artist would have just cut-n-paste the first drawing, then moved it over, but I did it the hard way with a light-box. I also dread to think how long I spent on that epic tash (considering no one’s going to be looking at it, they’ll all be looking at the cute girl in the thong above.)

I was a little nervous, as this was my first time doing a sexy pin-up actually base on a real person, who would then be seeing it when it‘s done, but I’m glad to say I got a thumbs up from Mercedes about how I depicted her character Rose, which was a relief, as I didn’t fancy having to redraw her for a forth time. Over all I had fun doing this pin-up, and it’s always good to promote indy comic-book series. It’s been a while since I’ve done a non-Babayka related piece of artwork, so enjoy.

For more details on both the movie and comic of Rose And Viktor, you can find details and links on their site: www.roseandviktor.com

T & A (Thongs And Axes.)

With my birthday at the start of next month, and then Babayka-Lives returning on the 20th, I get the feeling next month’s gonna be a busy one for me. But before all the chaos that is February 2016 begins, I’m hoping to fit in a quick pin-up before then.

Can’t say too much about it just yet, but to wet your appetites, here’s the rough figure layout for one of the characters. I’m aiming for a sleazy, sin city, grindhouse style vibe to this image.

Hopefully more details (and maybe the odd photo) to follow soon.

Rumour Has It.

Just a quick post today to say rumour has it the start date of Babayka Land might be going up on Babayka-Lives this Saturday (If a certain someone can find a spare 10-minutes tomorrow to convert his big photoshop file into a nice, smaller, web-friendly jpeg file that is…)

For those keen to find out the return date of Babayka-Lives, I think it might be worth your while checking out the site this weekend, that’s all I’m saying. You might even get another brief glimpse of forthcoming Book Two artwork, too, if you’re lucky. Who knows.

Bloody Gif.

This is a Gif I made a while ago to advertise my webcomic Babayka-Lives. I had it up on my deviantart page throughout 2014, and partly into 2015, and people seemed to like it, so since deviantart no longer lets non paying members post Gifs on their profile page, I thought I’d just simply post it here on my blog instead. Bring it back to celebrate Babayka-Lives return next month.

The scene itself is taken from the second chapter of Brides Of Babayka, and the death of Ben Plug, with Alina getting hit by some unexpected crimson backsplash.

And if that wasn’t enough of a treat, I’m also gonna drop the rumour that there’s a good choice I’ll be posting the exact return date of Babayka-Lives, and the start of Babayka Land next Saturday (the 16th) exclusively over on Babayka-Lives.com next week, so watch this space. Well… THIS SPACE.

For Those That Tumble.

Before Babayka-Lives returns next month, I thought I’d quickly put a call out for readers with Tumblrs to consider maybe subscribing.

I kind of feel by this point, those who have read the entirety of Brides Of Babayka, most of them by now would have decided if Babayka-Lives is a web-series they’re into or not, and if they’ll be returning for more of Babayka’s sinister escapades in 2016.

The majority of my webcomic readership are incognito, and no doubt always will be. That’s just the nature of posting stuff online. Everybody on the internet ‘lurks’ once in a while (myself included, so no judgement.) But for those that tumble, and ain’t afraid to come out the Babayka-Lives reader’s closet and show a little support, maybe consider hitting that subscribe button in the top right-hand corner at some point over the next few weeks. Right now, people who subscribe via Tumblr and Tapastic are the only readers I can put a name, or sometimes a face to. Well… I say name and face… but usually it’s some weird username and a picture of their cat or favourite cartoon character, but it’s still a reader to me, and I’m still grateful for the support, so please do tap that subscribe button.

As many of you have probably seen, I’ve posted a teaser page for new artwork for Book Two: Babayka Land yesterday. As mentioned on that teaser page, Babayka-Lives returns next month. I’ll be posting the exact start date exclusively on Babayka-Lives itself in the coming future, so keep a beady eye on the site for that.

A big thank you in advance to any and all that do kindly subscribe. I look forward to seeing all your wacky usernames and pussy pics.
