Catch Of The Day: Coloured.

For those that like their inbred, hillbilly cannibals in colour, here’s ‘Catch Of The Day’ coloured.

I don’t often get as much of a chance to flex my creative-muscle when it comes to colouring my artwork as I’d like, but I just couldn’t resist with this pin-up. This image is a mix of watching too many 80’s slasher movies as a kid, as well as a bit of a throwback to the old 50’s EC comics era, and I wanted to reflect that in the colours. As a nod to old horror comics, if you zoom in, you’ll see I’ve started experimenting with using colour halftones in this pin-up. I didn’t want to overuse them, and make the colour job seem gimmicky, but they’re there if you look for them. I also like that with colour, you’re a lot more aware that this scene is going down outside in the woods at night than maybe before.

I forgot to mention last time, I kind of see this pin-up as my take on the classic ‘Monster Carry’ scene from older horror movies. The giant, scary creature, creeping through the night, with a beautiful damsel in his arms (or in this case, over his shoulder.) Only here, hopefully more updated.

I am actually trying to develop this scene and character a little farther… you’ll be happy to know the monster in this pin-up now has a name, and even a nickname. I very much would like to draw this character again.
