Techno Death Rattle.

I bought this laptop (this very one I’m typing on now) five years ago. It was second hand when I bought it, so God knows how old it really is. I’ve had friends who’ve bought brand new and more expensive laptops that haven’t lasted as long as this one. Sure, sometimes the last two rows of keys sometimes go dead for no reason at all and the Cap Lock Button has broken off. The Arrow on screen drifts off to the side sometimes and the CD drive is dead. On top of this when I’m online it never takes much to make the webpage crash. Like if you try and scroll down before the page is 100% loaded. Not to mention the fact I’ve had to replace the power lead twice and it only has one USB point. But for whatever reason it’s still kicking.

I know it can’t last. So this year I ordered a new Laptop (on this old, dodgy Laptop) and yesterday got a phone call from the company I’d ordered it off, saying it was to be delivered tomorrow (i.e. today). I had been downloading Podcasts to listen to for the last half an hour, and got the call as I was downloading the last one. As I hung up I went back to my Laptop, which had started to freeze again. I switched it off and went and had Breakfast and when I come back and turned it on again, it’s just had a total meltdown. All my files and setting wouldn’t load up. It was like the computer had rebooted itself. Even the desktop image went back to that shitty image of a grassy hill and blue sky. Luckily I had backed up a couple of important files but lost a couple of them as well, who look like they’re lost forever now. The only thing of mine the computer had saved (just to be a bastard) was the stuff in my Recycling bin. The only thing on my computer that really didn’t need saving. I can still just about get online but all my favourite links had been deleted and signing into some sites (including this very blog) has become a nightmare.

So I was happy when the new Laptop turned up today. It got a wider screen and looks deadly… only problem is, it’s so fancy, it too fancy for my old modem and I can’t get online with it yet (make your own comedy, trumpet sound here). The harddrive on my old laptop is making some dodgy sounds or a techno death rattle if you will. But amazingly it’s still kicking and my only source of getting online still for now. Even if it does crash worse then ever now. If this Blog suddenly goes very quite soon, you’ll know this Laptop has finally crashed for the last time. And as angry as I am for losing those files yesterday, You’ve got to respect the fight in this Laptop. He’s like Rocky or something

I did however get my fancy 3D webcam (yeah, I caved in the end) working and took a 3D picture of my new Laptop. I think this shot is upside down and my new screensaver is a bunch of Ghetto Blasters for some reason.

Also I’ve been checking out the free films on Blinkbox lately (got a couple of free Alex Cox movies on there) and saw they’d updated thier Doctor Who section. You can now watch for free The Talons Of Weng-Chang, Warriors Gate, State Of Decay and recently voted best Doctor Who story of all time, The Caves Of Androzani. Kind of wish they’d upload some stories that aren’t out on DVD and therefore I don’t own yet. But I still think it’s pretty amazing, you can watch them for free.
