Catch Of The Day: Coloured.

For those that like their inbred, hillbilly cannibals in colour, here’s ‘Catch Of The Day’ coloured.

I don’t often get as much of a chance to flex my creative-muscle when it comes to colouring my artwork as I’d like, but I just couldn’t resist with this pin-up. This image is a mix of watching too many 80’s slasher movies as a kid, as well as a bit of a throwback to the old 50’s EC comics era, and I wanted to reflect that in the colours. As a nod to old horror comics, if you zoom in, you’ll see I’ve started experimenting with using colour halftones in this pin-up. I didn’t want to overuse them, and make the colour job seem gimmicky, but they’re there if you look for them. I also like that with colour, you’re a lot more aware that this scene is going down outside in the woods at night than maybe before.

I forgot to mention last time, I kind of see this pin-up as my take on the classic ‘Monster Carry’ scene from older horror movies. The giant, scary creature, creeping through the night, with a beautiful damsel in his arms (or in this case, over his shoulder.) Only here, hopefully more updated.

I am actually trying to develop this scene and character a little farther… you’ll be happy to know the monster in this pin-up now has a name, and even a nickname. I very much would like to draw this character again.

Ghost On Ghost Action.

At first I wasn’t sure if this Grudge vs. Ringu trailer was real or just some parody, but I think it’s official.

I have mix feelings about this film. On one hand I never thought we’d see a J-Horror ‘vs.’ movie. On the other hand, it’s been so long since anyone put out a monsters ‘vs.’ film, I’m kind of up for it.

More Lore.

It’s time for more Babayka back-story around the campfire this Saturday, as we dig deeper into what happened when Krayvengrad’s most notorious resident came to stay.

Check out the action at: Babayka-Lives.com

While it’s hard to tell sometimes, I get the feeling readers have been enjoying these current lore heavy instalments. People like a good monster back-story, I reckon. If you’re a long term reader, it’s nice to get some answers to things that were hinted at from earlier on in the series.

Lore Galore.

Since we’re moving into the second story-arc of Babayka-Lives now, it’s time I started ‘Laying Down The Lore’, as it were. Filling in some of the blanks left over from Brides Of Babayka. I think readers will pick up pretty quickly why Book Two is called ‘Babayka Land‘.

Hear the ‘Lore Of The Land’ of Krayvengrad this Saturday at Babayka-Lives.com

Thought Of The Day.

I don’t usually post MEMES, but I have to confess, I like this one. It gets you thinking.

20,000 Page Views Pin-up.

For those who also follow me over on deviantart, I’m currently asking for pin-up ideas to draw to celebrate when my page hits 20,000 views later in the year. I like to try and do pin-ups as a thank you
to regular visitors to my account when I hit a certain number of views, and will be trying to do so when I reach 20,000 in a few months.

Check out my most recent deviantart journal entry for details.

The Name Of Babayka Land Is…

Wow, what are the chances that it’s the Easter period, and this week I’d have to draw a panel with a bunny in it?

Question: Does the actual remote Russian location where Brides Of Babayka and Babayka Land actually takes place finally get named in this week’s instalment?

Answer: Yes it does.

And it only took me two years, three months and a hundred and two pages to finally get around to name dropping it. A little bit of Babayka-Lives history is made today.
