I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Summer makes Cactuses do weird things.
At this point, it's starting to look like a strange Alien Life-Form.

It's been a long time since I've made a 'GIF' from my artwork. So this week I decided to animate an old panel from a one-page strip I did a couple of years ago called 'Zombie With A Pizza Cutter'. A quick comic tale about a malicious Ghoul who goes round attacking his victims with a certain kitchen utensil to get to their delicious Brains (a very 'Grindhouse' kind of idea). And now you can see his quest for yummy gray matter in full motion and colour.
It's a very basic GIF, I know, but hopefully still fun.
You can read the original comic HERE.
It's just not a Comic Con without running into a couple of famous sci-fi celebrities.
An old school Dalek and (what looks like a homemade) Cyberman from Doctor Who.
Taken at Hastings Comic Con 2025 last weekend.
Another recent shot of the scourge of Whitechapel.
Yet again 'Old Saucy Jack' prowls the streets looking for his next victim.
I didn't do any cosplaying but one highlight from the weekend just gone was that I finally had an excuse to wear my Batman t-shirt since it was a Comic Con.
Plus it was also actually sunny for once, so I got to wear my shades, too.
Had a fun time at Hastings Comic Con this weekend. Hot and sticky, but still fun.
Did I manage to find anything Zombie related to buy, you might ask? Yes... Yes, I did... I got these two very cool badges.
She's been pencilled... She's been inked... She's been cleaned up and scanned... And now finally she's been coloured, too.
I wanted to colour her much more traditionally, but at some point her colour palette went from 'classy' to more of a 'Bubblegum Bride Of Frankenstein' kind of look.
Considering the crazy amount of Zombies I've had to draw over recent months, this is actually the first one I've had a chance to get to colour and I had a lot of fun trying to make him look as gruesome and decayed as I could.
I don't know how many people reading this have had to colour or paint or dress as a Zombie before over the years in their own art projects, but it's tricky, as the first thing you have to decide on is your own Zombie Colour Palette. So with mine, I tried to make my Undead character look drained and saturated. Like death and being outside in the elements all day in bad weather had faded him. I also went for a rotten meat kind of vibe, so you know this guy is decomposing and stinky just by sight.
If you guessed I was gonna give her a 'messy bun', you were correct.
This is the first time it has ever bloomed, so you are looking at its first ever flower, and I think it's a really good one.
Before this Spring, I had never had a Cactus flower. Now I've had two.
An ode to modern 'selfie culture' and all those that make art this way now.
I also like that if you painted the phone out of the picture she would just be 'flipping the V' at the viewer.
As you can see, it's still very much a 'WIP', as I've yet to decide what to do with this character's hair.
Lock up your Harlots...
JACK'S BACK.
It's amazing who you can run into while out on a walk on a nice sunny day. This guy is a long way from Whitechapel.
A Jack The Ripper mannequin spotted recently while out on a walk.
I'm not really feeling brave enough yet to post a whole page from my new Comic. So here's half-a-page.
Great horror comic book artists of the past would spend their days drawing characters like 'creepy gravediggers' and 'evil mad scientists'. Whereas recently I've been drawing an animal cosplaying internet 'vlogger' for my latest horror tale.
Not a great Pen for drawing with, I have to say, and I found the Ink looked a bit light and washed out. And I had to press so hard to rub out the Ink that I ended up ruining the page under it in my sketchbook.
But that said, I do still like a couple of the results I got with it. At times you can almost get a 'poor man's etching' kind of effect with them.
One has also recently grown a pair of little Cacti balls either side of its main shaft.
There have been some people who have seen it who have commented that it might look a little... shall we say... phallic... I'll let you be the judge.
Because Easter is all about rebirth and resurrection and things coming back to life... here's a creepy Zombie being taken out 'whack-a-mole' style.
A very HAPPY EASTER, to all those who celebrate it.
Her Undead hunger will never be satisfied. She will know no other afterlife.
I would love to say that no Zombies were hurt in the making of my new Comic... but clearly this guy gets it pretty badly.
Here's a nicer photo of some Liquorice cocooned in some delicious pink Nougat.
Found this on my Washing Line Cover today. It's some kind of Web-Cocoon and inside is a hibernating or dead Spider, and loads of little white Eggs.
I'm not really sure what's going on in this photo, to be honest. It could be a sleeping Mother who Cocooned herself inside with her Eggs somehow? Or maybe a Spider left as a Meal for the Eggs when they hatch?
If you can handle subtitles, I would recommend giving them a try. They're less prone to falling into the tropes of normal Zombie movies, and they can often be a lot of fun.
The top two are from Japan. Middle two are from South Korea. And the bottom two are from Taiwan.
I know with this post I'm inadvertently 'outing' myself as a Antiques Road Trip viewer, but I had to share this Zombie find spotted on a recent episode.
I've spent my fair share of hours in Antique Shops over the years and have never seen anything as cool as this Zombie Head.
Put down the phone and pick up an axe, People...
It's getting harder and harder to bag yourself a bargain while out on the high street hunting down secondhand Books, Comics and Films these days. Especially now there's less shops and everybody can just look up the true price of what they're selling online.
But if you poke around enough... sometimes you can still get lucky.
Zombies never have the right to invade your personal space.
When it comes to the Undead... The best 'Warning Shot' is a Head Shot.
I am a massive fan of this series.
Sadly, I'm missing part 4, as neither 4 or 5 were released here in the UK. I had to get my dvd copy of part 5 from Germany.
Never forget... these films gave the world the catchphrase "BBBRRRRAAAINNNNNSSSSSSS".
It's not often in Art you get a chance to return to an image you have done before and have another go at drawing it. It's also been nice to get a chance to go into more detail and flesh out the idea a bit more with this new Pin-Up.
So for fun I thought I'd put them side-by-side so people could see them together.
He won't bite... Honest...
Go on, give that big old Teddy Bear a cuddle.
Also, she came out looking a bit more 'Harley Quinn' than I was expecting and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing?
I've drawn a lot of intro panels to characters before over the years, but this one might genuinely be my favourite.
The Undead don't stand a chance when this particular Slayer is on the scene. With her Hair cut short to avoid being grabbed by hungry Ghouls and her trusty rifle. She is a one-woman Zombie killing machine.
Firstly someone very kindly (and maybe as a joke) bought me yet another copy of Night Of The Living Dead for Christmas recently, meaning I have almost double figures amount of copies now of this Undead classic. I should point out I'm not actually collecting as many editions as I can, though. I just have a lot because of poor life choices.
And also to add to my UK list, the cult British Zombie Movie (and one I've been after for a while) Colin. This 2008 film was infamous back in the Zombie boom of the 00's for being made on a budget of just £45.
