Away For A Few Days.

Well I don’t usually get one (sound of the world smallest violin and all that) but this year I’m having a kind of summer holiday break. Getting away for a few days with friends to Cornwall or around that area. I’m not really one for camping or roughing it if I can avoid it but it’ll be sleeping on the ground and washing with a wet wipe for me for the next few days… still you tend to holiday to your budget (hence the wet wipes and hard ground.) No it’ll be good to be among friends and forget about it all for a few days, even if it does look like we’ve missed the best weather, my hope of having my own tent is now pretty much 0% as everyone seems to want to share and I know for a fact that one of my friends watched Brokeback mountain a few weeks back when it was on the telly and also nearly bought the DVD. Still hopefully the pluses will far out weigh these points. Also it’ll be the first time in ages I won’t have to get up early on a Saturday for work. I have to say it still feels like a bit of a sin going to bed early on a Friday night. This Friday night should hopefully be a good one.

I’ll be back next week but will leave this shot from my Dr Who story. Yep finished that sample and posted it off today and knowing my luck they’ll probably be a new Doctor come Saturday, but what do I care I’ll be miles from a telly and hopefully drunk. No I get the feeling the current Doctor will be around for a bit longer yet anyway. More Junkyard action with this panel. I really enjoyed drawing this junkyard scene. Makes me want to do a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max style story for some reason. Probably partly because I’ve just started reading The World Without Us by Alan Weisman as well lately at night.

New Favourite Pet Hate.

I think its called The Tool Bar or something. That little area on your screen between your web address and the web page you’re looking at when you use the Internet at the top of the screen. I seem to get very little input into what’s going on there on mine. Every time I install something it always seems to grow new buttons and even when I don’t they still appear. I mean a computer screen is only so big and as I say you never really get much of a choice, they just appear. I have a hard time trying to get rid of most of them so I can actually see my screen.

Scrap Yard Scene.

First shot from my Dr Who submission. For some reason I decided to set the first scene in a scrap yard. It was one of those moves where it sounds like a good idea in your head but when the time comes to draw it, it could have easily become a nightmare. I just tried to have fun with it and bought a Car magazine about classic cars to get the look of the scrap yard right. I found drawing beat up old cars a lot more fun then I thought I would. Now I’m regretting not setting more of the story in a scrap yard.

VWORP. VWORP.

Been working on a Doctor Who story submission lately. Had the idea in my head for a little while but it was finding time to work on it. Got the first drift of the script done and waiting to be tidy up. I’ve got the character sheets done (my take on the current Doctor below) and will try and knock up a couple of pages as well for the submission.

Used to love watching Dr Who as a kid in the 80’s and again in the early 90’s when they started repeating them on BBC2. Cybermen, Sea devils, Sonic Screwdrivers. It was the best thing to watch as a kid when they did show them. For years I couldn’t watch any episodes as they never put them on TV or anything but now a days you’ve got new Doctor Who on Saturday nights and a lot of the classics on DVD.

{By-the-by} “Vworp” “Vworp” the sound effect the Tardis usually makes in Dr Who comics. When I was writing up my script I could not figure out how you’d spell that Tardis sound. Give it a go, it impossible. There’s just not enough letters in the alphabet to sum up that sound effect.

One Man And His Robot.

This is the latest and probably last panel from my short Sci-fi strip I did. Problem with the last three weeks is I’ve been busy on stuff that you can’t really put up on a Blog. Sticking images into my reference folder, Thumb nailing and writing up script. It’s all stuff that really needs to be done but doesn’t leave me much to post. But I should be getting back to drawing very soon and I still have a couple of things I’ve been meaning to post as well. I’m really itching to get back to doing sequential work very soon.

Wow June already so that means we’re halfway through 2008. Bit of a depressing thought. Only feels like a couple of months ago it was Christmas.
